Idiocracy 2024

It goes deeper than that. It’s been a decline that started with Nixon, was accelerated by Reagan’s “moral majority,” and pushed to the breaking point since W.
Yeah, I think that Nixon-Reagan thing peaked in W then crashed in 2006-8. That was the time to get real about reform, but it didn't happen. And after hitting rock bottom, the thing just bounced and flew past what we saw with W. Maybe after the inevitable AI/crypto crash we'll see something meaningful happen.

LOL....money for Trump's personal ICE army. Get Fu%*( and die old people on Medicare

A lot of people are about to get what they voted for.

Abject lunacy going on down there.

Congress goes on early vacation to have the Democrats stop talking about Epstein. They are have Maxwell testify in front of Congress after the DOJ has private meetings with her and now Trump is going on nonsense tirades about Obama and treason.

Absolute farce of a country.

I think, at least, people are starting to realize that this is all just about diversion.

Right wing pundit Charlie Kirk was killed on a campus today. There is no such thing as an acceptable gun death. But just because you know the right wing media and White House will have perfectly consistent takes with their approach to school shootings im going to leave this quote here:

"I think it's worth it. I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights"

No gun death is acceptable but this is what political polarization looks like. This is what stoking the worst impulses of human nature looks like. Either the rhetoric gets turned down or this gets worse.

And to add to that, there's been 300+ mass shootings in the US this year. Right before he was shot he was asked how many trans people committed mass shootings? He said there were "too many". This kind of dog whistle rhetoric gets people killed. Lo and behold.

Amazing how one of those God given rights isn't being free of constant fear of being shot and killed.

Nah. I don't think think meeting in the middle and toning down the words will change any of this. That was the Biden fantasy. We here in the states have had Gilded Age levels of wealth inequality and political sclerosis for a while now, but we didn't quite have the political violence. Well, now we do.

We're starting to see more of the negative impacts of the hyperpartisanism that has become so much worse over the last 20 years. It's not about simple political disagreements anymore, we have sides living in different realities. The culture wars that have been pushed on the public to distract from issues like wealth inequality and such are escalating. The various pundits on all sides are fomenting really problematic tribalism. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

What's really sad about all this is this singular man, who has chosen to be so far on one side will receive more attention than the 2 students wounded in a shooting in Denver yesterday. Or the Minnesota shooting at a church that left 2 children dead. You know, innocent people in all of this political horseshit. They didn't even get a chance to choose sides.

Or the multiple US politicians that have been shot and/or murdered in recent years. None of this is new or out of the ordinary unfortunately.

I mean it can be both. I do agree there is a new gilded age in the States, which I think now may be worse than the Rockefeller era, and wealth inequality needs to be addressed, but toning down the rhetoric really can't hurt, and stoking that fire can only lead to worse outcomes, especially when a large part of the motivation isn't just economic but is also cultural.
