Lafferty to Vancouver

I had higher hopes for Lafferty when he was first acquired. I think he'd still have been a solid option as 4RW this season, especially as a guy who could jump higher in the lineup when needed and play PK. But obviously that spot got filled a few months ago.
 
Kapanen-lite without the scoring flair. He?ll make a fun line with Mikheyev.

Leafs have Gregor, McMann, Ellis/Steeves as similar options.
 
Importantly this move will allow the Leafs to start the season with a 21-man roster. It wouldn't have been possible with him on the roster. That will be set to last at least until Timmins returns.
 
All those moves Dubas made at the deadline last year have reduced to ... McCabe?  (on the roster that is)

A 5th round pick seems like a solid return for a guy who was likely to be claimed on waivers when placed on them.  Sucks to lose some depth but better to get a lottery ticket than lose to waivers like we have done 20,000 times in the last few years.

I really didn't think Lafferty did anything much. Gregor probably could do the same thing for cheaper.
 
I'd hoped for a little more from him.
Moving him to get flexibility to have 21 on the roster and getting a pick made a lot of sense.
Missed a lot of preseason games but what I saw of Gregor, I didn't mind as someone who offers what Lafferty did on the wing: speed, some physical play, PK. I presume they'll sign Gregor for $800k or so.

Just listened to the last Leaf Report and good God the hard on Jonas Siegel has for Lafferty is mind boggling.

It's fairly pitiful. The whole macho toxic culture embodied again.
 
They get their feathers ruffled when people inadvertently walk on their logo in the middle of the dressing room. Some smart teams just put the logo on the ceiling.
