Boucher surely can't stick around after the PP disaster. I get they want more time to reevaluate and maybe let the new head coach put his input in on these guys but I'm a little surprised he wasn't part of this news immediately. Dean Chynoweth always seemed like a good one and the Leafs were wise to grab him out of Carolina, although it was a little weird that they hired Mike van Ryn to essentially take half his job when he was doing it pretty well. So who knows what happens with him, I can see him looking to move on for a bigger role. I assume the organization sees Mike van Ryn as a bit of an up and comer and that's why they stepped in to grab him again even though they already had a pretty established guy in his place. He's likely safe for that reason, and hey wouldn't ya know he's worked for Craig Berube before. Malholtra was the up and comer before MVR but has seemed pretty lost in the staff so I assume he's let go. Curtis Sanford, I dunno goalie coaches are voodoo like goalies so I don't have an opinion there.

Is it Mitch Marner style, or is he just a very good follower of his coach's requests? Keefe kept saying Marner played great, but it very visibly wasn't what we needed from him.

He tried to take full responsibility during his last press conference.
His fate was sealed some time ago as the talent on the roster slipped - which was not his fault.
Falling short of a parade was going to end this way like it has for all the Leafs coaches over the past 50+ years.
I've seen a number of worse Leafs coaches in my time. I would describe him as one of the better ones.
His 2 year Leafs contract begins so he'll be fine financially.
I'm sure he will get another NHL coaching gig.
I wish him the best (except against our Leafs).

Good job. I was coming to say the exact same things.

Van Ryn and Chenowyth look like hedged early invitations to either Rod or Craig to come over when the seat opens up.

Anyway Keefe is a good coach. I have no doubt he'll get hired somewhere relatively quickly and have success. But this was very clearly at least one year too late.

Shame for Keefe, I enjoyed his regular season teams.

I?d say he could do a great job in somewhere like Seattle or San Jose .

Or what about Ottawa?

Ottawa introduced Travis Green as coach yesterday (or very recently)

Keefe should probably take some time to recharge under his Leafs contract.

He will be a Wilkes-Barre/Scranton coach shortly, unless offers an NHL job. There are lots of openings.

Leafs kind of own his rights for the next 2 years tho. Is he allowed to coach in the A and not give up his salary?

No clue! Will he even want to go back to the bus, after several seasons of charter flights?

If he does, he effectively forfeits his new 2 year Leafs contract.
He doesn't need to panic. He will get hired in the NHL.
It is a very stressful job. He should take some time to let his body recover from the pressure cooker.
If no one else were to pick him up, you're right: Dubas likely would.
But I don't think he has to worry about that.
With the turnover of NHL coaches, there will be plenty of job openings.
He'll probably have some choices.

I don't see him going back to the bus

Most likely, no. Depends on the contract.

If you get wrongfully dismissed and try to sue your employer but start working at a new job shortly after, that significantly mitigates the damages you can claim - you were not out of work long.
Keefe has a contract to coach for the Leafs. If he goes to coach for someone else, he effectively breaks that contract - unless there is some clause that allows him to do that (very doubtful).

He can collect his Leafs contract dough and for example, sit at home and write a book or do other things that don't violate his Leafs contract. After what he's been through the last five years, his family and friends would be encouraging him to relax and recharge. Lose some weight. Get healthy. Study the league and get ready for his next coaching gig.

I don't think he outright forfeits it. My understanding is his new employer could basically pick up the tab on that contract, or they only go to the amount they offered, and the Leafs get a discounted amount to pay out.

Yes, it is.

Well, now we'll test the hypothesis.  If Marner can't adapt better in next season's playoffs (assuming we make it) that gives us the answer.
