Those things weren't likely to happen anyway. Not with another year on his contract. It would take a good 20+ game run for teams to change their opinion on him. So, no big deal there.

Nah. Bernier wasn't great, but even strength scoring chances were pretty close, and it definitely felt like the Isles were getting much better chances than the Leafs. Bernier being in just made the score worse.

So, that's 4 wins in 20 games against the East, now. And, with the Blue Jackets winning tonight, once again, the Leafs are in position where they'd be in last place if it wasn't for the shootout.

Yeah, though, Dubnyk being on a cheap deal and a pending UFA definitely helped the situation there a little in terms of value.

I do think that if you can convince a team that you can give them an upgrade in net, they can lose their minds a little. Trades like the Lehner trade or Jones trade or whichever Leafs trade you want to cite show, to my mind, that so long as you can show some sort of real upside then teams will make some pretty questionable decisions there.

So it's really just about getting a stretch of good play, I think. Then things like price won't matter as much and I do think the return could be better than expected.

Yeah this is what I was going to mention.  Bernier carries a $4.2 million cap hit and has an .898 SV% in 2015.

There's basically no way for the Leafs to get value back for Bernier this season, but, if he were to have a good extended run between now and the deadline/end of the season, they may be able to pull of a straight contract swap. That's the best case scenario in terms of moving him. Otherwise, I imagine they just bite the bullet and let his contract run out. They probably won't need the cap space next season, so it's not a big deal (and, because of the way his contract is structured, a buyout would only free up ~$1.4M next season any way).

He could be a very good goalie, the problem is all between his ears.
