I mean I did recommend trading him instead of extending him several years ago, but it’s a tricky one (and even trickier now).

There’s just no gain from throwing out quotes to make fans feel vindicated while demotivating an underperforming key player.

I agree with that. No use in tearing someone a new one in front of the media.

I think he is overplayed at this point. He never was all that great defensively but it's become a a larger issue.

Berube is the other issue. He seems very hesitant to make any sort of changes in-game. He has players pigeon-holed and that's that. Playing the same players over and over again in OT and expecting a different result. I would live to see Stetcher, Cowan and Robertson 3v3.

Not throwing out quotes to appease fans is one thing, saying Rielly has played very good this year is completely out of touch, he's had a horrible year and it needs addressing. He could have at least said, yeah he's having a bit of rough time but we're working with him and I know he'll be better, not something everyone knows is false.

He's def overplayed at this point and unfortunately McCabe got hurt so they played 44 even more. But it's just not about last night. This has been going on all season. They actually used 44 on the PK at times as well. Like what are they thinking? The staff make some weird decisions.
Well we finally got 1 shift in OT for Robertson so I'll give them credit for that....baby steps I guess.

I mean...I'm writing in a pretty calm and civilized manner. You keep swearing and ranting like a petulant child, which is why I brought it up. No worries, feel free to take your own advice and stop reading mine. And "couldn't care less" is the term you're going for.

The buck stops with him, but from everything I’ve read about Berube, he’s a vibes coach. He gives his assistants a lot of latitude re: tactics and deployment.

Other than Keefe (who overdid it sometimes), the Leafs coaching staffs have been on the conservative side of trying players out. There are meetings and practice sessions involved for non-5v5 time and they’re not done as often, so that’s why I assume we don’t see so many random deployments.

Berube giving Robertson an OT run was a step in the right direction. Stecher got a lot of OT this game. McMann’s been in there too, and I think Roy should get a look. 3v3 is so much about puck holding and skating that it gets hard to find options.

Right, there's much more room to skate with the puck in OT. You want quick players that can hold on to the puck.

I get the coaching staff has all sorts of things to take into consideration. If they throw out Robertson, Cowan and Stetcher in OT and they get scored on that isn't going to do much good for their already somewhat shaky confidence.

Cool so you can just pretend to have an equipment problem and then not have to stay on the ice after a long shift icing.

That behaviour when it is clear and obvious should be an immediate game misconduct.
