Can someone explain to me why they shot Kampf out of a canon? How could he not be useful at this point? I don’t get why Berube dislikes him so much. He’s strong and defensively responsible. Isn’t that what Berube wants?

Kampf didn't want to play for the Marlies.
Kampf walked away from the Marlies.
Kampf asked to be moved.
Leafs tried facilitating a trade.
They couldn't get a trade done.
Kampf and the Leafs mutually agreed to terminate the contract.

The Leafs made their roster choices at the start of the season and Kampf was the odd man out. No doubt that Kampf would be a help right now. I do think Kampf was a bit of numpty to walk away from the Marlies but that's what he wanted to do.
