Red Wings @ Leafs - Oct. 13th, 2:00pm - Amazon Prime

And this was all started because of a bad dump in by Knies that went right around to a Detroit player and they came down for a scoring chance. Ice the puck and here we are.

Trending up: Matthews.
Trending down: Nylander.

Robertson seemed to have an especially bad case of fumble-itis today. Maybe we get Blais next game?

Well, they deserved better there but I am really heartened by Matthews' game.
Significantly better than his first two games. Very encouraging.
There are still some things I'd like to see return to his game.

Nylander was floating for most of the game again....Didn't see Robertson the way you did. Lots of hustle at both ends. Created a few good chances and 1 great chance.

Berube on 88....

Berube's criticism of Nylander during preseason was that he doesn't always give you an effort.
I think they just have to accept it because after 11 years, what makes anyone think he's going to change?
He was like that with the Marlies.
At times, he floats. I do not think it is sinister laziness. It is just how he ticks.
The coach knows there are limits to talking with him.
He marches to the beat of his own drum. He's above the media radar.
He doesn't like blocking shots or hitting people - bruising and sometimes defense are not on his playing menu.
He's an enigma who can score jaw dropping goals or make amazing plays from nothing ... when he's in the mood.
Sometimes, he will make some great defensive plays and other times, he just doesn't. His mind seems to be someplace else.
I think they've concluded they just have to let him be and they'll get the most out of him that way.

Contrary to Nylander, Robertson seems to constantly make an effort. He's not flawless. And maybe he fumbles the puck like many players sometimes. He doesn't have the size or all of Nylander's talent. But he fights for every second of ice time he gets in both ends of the ice - trying to survive in this league. He has progressed significantly defensively in several different ways. He's a finisher but they have several of those ahead of him. I think he'd be top 6 on bottom feeder teams - 20+ goal scorer no problem. He's good depth to have should one of their finishers go down with injury. I wasn't his biggest fan but have come to respect his effort to change his game from a position on the outside looking in - when his back was against a wall.

I fear we're in the decline stage of the Leafs once again and they didn't win anything during Matthews prime. I'm finding it more difficult to care about this team
