Canadiens vs. Leafs - Nov. 22nd, 7:00pm - SN

Well they play in the NHL so even if you want to add Patrick, the odds are still shit.
While I understand the sentiment, what are the odds that an NHL team goes 60 years ( cuz it's gonna be at least that) without making a Stanley Cup finals apperance? The only other teams without a finals apperance didn't even exist when the Leafs last did it.

I know we shouldn't take it personally, but why the hell are the Leafs a cursed team? Like the Detroit Lions or Buffalo Bills in the NFL or England's soccer team. Just all our luck that the team that would just be the worst when it comes to trying to construct a roster to win the cup would be the one that we all happen to cheer for.

I mean in fairness Harold Ballard screwed the Leafs for 20+ years and that led into a poverty owner in Stavros before we got owned by the Pension Fund who did not maximize our financial might but it optimize their return on investment.

MLSE to to their credit have spent a boatload on the franchise between spending to the cap, having a bloated front office and trying to maximize bonuses/payouts to entice contracts. They also gouge the fans at the box office.

The Leafs aren't cursed as much as a franchise that has had spotty ownership and when we finally had a more stable ownership mentality our financial advantages were blunted by the hard cap.

It is tougher now because so many teams have been added.
Bowman was smart and looked over the team before he went there.
To exclude a coach just because he's won before doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
If he's a really good coach, he should get the gig if he's the best coach available and fits the team.
The odds of someone else wining a Cup with a second team are probably increasing as the years go on.
It is like the draft: take the best.

Berube probably wouldn't want to hang around for a rebuild.
Neither will Matthews
The lengthy contracts on the aged D will be tough to move.

Problem is: Treliving would have a hard time approaching the board after his DNA claim has turned to DNR and ask to do the rebuild. But he's going to see the writing on the wall before we do and he'll have little choice but to trade picks and prospects to survive. The odds of this team winning a Cup are microscopic. MLSE need to pull the plug before Tre gets desperate or at the very least, request authorization of all trades.

The other thing is: so many picks and prospects have been traded away already. So the rebuild is going to be lengthy and painful.
It's grim. They won't want to rebuild for sure. But if they are out of a playoff spot come the deadline, they'll have to be sellers and restock their picks a bit. At this point I'm starting to look forward to the 2035 season, sigh.
