Patrick Kane returns to Blackhawks on two-year deal

The Buffalo, N.Y., native signed a two-year, $16 million contract worth $8 million in average annual value with the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday, per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

That's absolutely crazy. Good for Kane, but man that's a lot of money for a guy two years older than Tavares.

I figure that's what it took for him to choose Chicago, given they're going likely nowhere near contention the next couple of seasons.

Chicago having enough cap space to spend 8 million dollars on Kane x2 years makes sense. Bedard being done with his rookie contract while still being in a situation where you have the ability to spend 8 million dollars on Kane for 2 years is certainly a choice. I don't think this is a bad decision by Chicago to bring Kane back. He can teach some good skill things to the younger players....but the team should be looking to compete for the playoffs and outside of 2/3 of the Western conference being soft poo over the last year, that Chicago team still looks pretty mediocre.

I don't know what took so long if Kane was offered the $8 Mil back July 1 time frame... I would have imagined he would have lept
over the desk to sign....
