2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

The roster is so banged up now that losses aren't even unfair to have. If they lose tomorrow that would be an acceptable loss. They need to find a way to get some unacceptable wins however. No excuses. Find a way to win.

From here:

Top 5 protected, slides to 2027. The 2027 pick goes to Philadelphia (as part of Laughton trade) if it is outside the top 10, which converts this pick to Boston to a 2028 unprotected 1st Round Pick. If this Pick slides to 2027 and is in the top 10, TOR can either transfer it to BOS to satisfy this trade and then give PHI the 2028 unprotected, or transfer it to PHI and give BOS the 2028 unprotected 1st Round Pick.

I was curious about this too. Leafs have no first in 2026 or 2027 but also have lottery protection, the sliding picks makes it confusing. Either way it seems they're screwed on picks for years (unless they win the lottery)

No firing of Berube without Tre going first/at the same time. He's the architect of this mess.

I think this is where I am.

I just don't think this combination is the right one for this team. I don't think the team is well built. And I don't think the coach is correct for the personnel that are on board. And there's no real way to remake the roster any more for this coach. Plus not many of the attempts to do so by the GM have really been a success anyway.

I'd be on board with a clean slate and restart and refresh at this stage in all honesty.

I think the easiest way through is to just hope they make the playoffs the next two years so that the pick is in the 16 to 20 range. Once you start approaching the 2030 timeframe, that is when the team will probably need to be reconfigured.

Tanev indeed on LTIR. This means the earliest he could potentially return is next weeks game against Columbus (Nov. 26th).
Treliving said something loosely to the effect that they won't have a solid idea of when Tanev might return for another week. So LTIR won't be much of an inconvenience - he is likely going to be out 10 games & 24 days plus

Glad to hear Matthews is skating ...
