Sounds like doing right by the player...give him a chance to sign multi year deal while he's still producing. I can't imagine they'd have much trouble trading the guy at $6.5m X 1yr.

I think it's mutually beneficial, even if it's costing Krieder $4M in guaranteed money; he'll likely get to go 'home' to the Rangers (they are hilariously capped out).
