Sharks (6) vs. Kings (5)

If the Kings top players -- Doughty, Kopitar, Brown, etc,- work their magic as they had against St.Louis, and goaltender Jonathan Quick is again super sharp, then L.A. can give San Jose some trouble.  Otherwise...

...it's the Sharks who'll triumph instead.  Provided that San Jose does not do another imitation of their famous playoff exits of season's past (when their top forwards mysteriously stopped scoring).

This series can go either way.
 
I didn't see the replay, but the Sharks seem convinced that the puck that went over the glass that resulted in the GWG on the ensuing PP deflected off Jeff Carter.
 
Los Angeles 4  San Jose 3.

The Sharks came back but those penalties were too much for San Jose to give away and very advantageous to the Kings powerplay.  Kings 'keeper Jonathan Quick made the saves he had to make to preserve the victory.

It's worth noting that during the regular season, the Los Angeles Kings had one of the best (if not the best) home record, and, the San Jose Sharks had one of the worse (if not the worst) road record.

Talk about role reversal.  In Game 2, a 4-3 win by the Kings, it was the Sharks penchant for marching to the penalty box (that included a controversial over-the-glass delay of game penalty), that gave L.A. all the powerplay opportunities to score some game winners.

Here, in Game 3, it was Los Angeles that marched to the penalty box (including a controversial interference call on the Kings Trevor Lewis for crashing Sharks goaltender Niemi, plus add to that a game misconduct to Kings goalkeeper  Quick for arguing with the officials), that gave San Jose a two-man advantage in the opening minutes of overtime. 

What made this all the more damaging to the Kings is that all of their penalties were incurred at the start of the overtime period by what the Kings felt was questionable refereeing.

I'm hoping this turns the tide for the series.  I'm a Leafs fan living in the San Jose area, but have become a Sharks fan as well.  The loss in Game 2 as a result of the 5 on 3 hurt bad.  The Sharks had Game 2 firmly in hand and were dominating the Kings and then took two tough penalties and gave away two quick goals.

Does Quick's game misconduct carry over to Game 4 since it was at the end of the game?  I would think not, but that would definitely make things interesting.
 
Yeah, just saw the highlights for this one too - Quick was complaining after both Shark goals. Don't like to see a series marred by questionable officiating, but Quick needs to keep his cool. Let someone else do the complaining. I hope this one goes 7.
 
2-1 for San Jose.  Series now tied at 2 apiece.

Yet another strange call on the Kings Dustin Penner's goal, make that a no-goal, with the Sharks already in the lead.  What might have been, what should have been, blah, blah, blah.

In the end though, the Sharks persisted well enough to win the game.  Not so much for L.A. as the Kings had only one good period (the third) and it simply wasn't enough.

Brent Burns has been a tour-de-force on the forward line for the Sharks, hitting and scoring and doing just about every little thing (yes, even taking the occasional penalty) and being a very effective player at all of that.

Los Angeles 3 San Jose 0  Kings lead series 3 games to 2.

A shut-out performance by L.A.'s goaltender Jonathan Quick, combined with goals from Kopitar, Voynov, and Carter, propelled Los Angeles to a solid 3-0 victory over the Sharks, and in command of the series lead.

With the victory, the Kings recorded their 13th straight home win in the playoffs.

Game 6 goes Sunday in San Jose.

Check this website.  It states the time between 5.00 pm  (Pacific), which would be 8:00pm  (Eastern), or, 7.00pm PT which would be 10:00pm ET.

Why thu discrepancies?  It will depend on what happens in the Pittsburgh/Ottawa series.

If Pens win,  the game will commence at 5.00 pm PT.
If Ottawa wins, the game will oommence at 7:00pm PT.

Pens won series.  Game starts at 5.00pm PT (8:00pm ET).
 
Final score: San Jose 2  L.A. 1  Series tied at 3 apiece.

The San Jose Sharks rediscovered the powerplay as they made good on their opportunities, while the Kings couldn't stay out of the box in the early going that cost them the win.

Of course, that is not to say that Sharks goaltender Antii Niemi was a minor-factor, for Niemi shut the door, figuratively speaking, on any potential Kings comeback after L.A. got one goal back.
As for the Kings netminder Jonathan Quick, the Sharks were a little more clever in scoring on net this time around.

Back to L.A. for Game 7, where the home team has won all of their games in this series. Same for San Jose.

It's anyone's guess who will win it.
 
The Sharks are the only team out of the last 6 standing that hasn't won a Cup in the last 5 years.

If they lose this one and the Hawks win their series, the final 4 will be the previous 4 Cup winners.

Just thought that was of interest considering how far the league has come in creating parity among teams.
 
L.A. 2  San Jose 1  Los Angeles wins series 4 games to 3.

Something about those home games....L.A Kings continued their home ice dominance on a pair of goals by Justin Williams in eliminating the Sharks from post-season play.

San Jose fell short of the mark, even though they went toe to toe against L.A., so to speak, in this series, it just wasn't enough to eke out a win especially in the all-important Game 7, where costly penalties were incurred by San Jose much to L, A's advantage.

The Kings Jonathan Quick was suoerb.  That glove save robbing the Sharks Joe Pavelski on what looked like a sure-fire goal, was brilliant, and probably took away any momentum or hopes the Sharks may have had on tying it up in the third period.

The Sharks Niemi was equally good but just not enough to prevent the two Kings goals.  As mentioned, the Sharks in general just did not possess the capacity to win this game based on several factors (as mentioned above).

Good entertaining series overall, though.

Too bad. I was kinda rooting for the Sharks, since they had never won the cup before. Some people have said this was a good series - not sure I would have been all that entertained. Six of the games had three goals or less scored, with the Kings outscoring the Sharks 14-10 over the seven games. I prefer a little more offense, personally.
