Rangers @ Leafs - Mar. 25th, 7:30pm - SN

Theyre being outshot 26-11 by one of the most anemic teams in the league. The score is not reflective of any special effort on the Rangers part. This is just how bad the Rangers are.

They were good shots by the Leafs. Goal one was a happy accident of a turnover and the Rangers taking out Shesterkin

Didn't see the game but on the highlights it looked like Shesterkin was frozen in place on the Joshua goal. I have to assume his confidence is in the dumpster.

I don't fault the players for winning. I don't fault the younger guys for being motivated. I do fault the coach for using mediocre veterans over younger players. I do fault the GM for only calling up 2.5 players (and really Pezzetta while a fun energy guy is not really a guy who has the potential to move the needle in any way next year).

These two wins have essentially taken the Leafs out of the race to make the bottom 5. Now that this has happened I'm sure we will go on to finish 2-7-0 to hand Boston the 6th or 7th pick. Berube's system of getting outshot 2:1 every game has really killed my interest in the Leafs this year.

Look no further at how Florida is handling the tail end of their lost season. This management team is completely inept. All it took was barely 2 seasons for us to be transported back to 2008.

I really think JFJ was the worst but it's hard to argue with this.

I just heard that the Carlo deal discussions STARTED at 230 on deadline day... That's insane. This whole last minute and do nothing Treliving strategy is infuriating.

I want to know who in the management group identified Carlo as a target and how they valued him at a 1st round pick or Minten and somehow both.

Somehow Minten and a 2nd round pick is much more palpable due the (small) retention in the contract. Boston smelled blood in the water and went in for the kill.

All I know is what I heard on the radio but it sounds like Rasmus Andersson was their target and that went nowhere and they went into panic mode and Carlo was the result.

Honestly the more I hear about how Treliving manages the team the angrier I get. I don't understand how this idiot has any foothold as an NHL executive. And I keep hearing how much Pelley loves him, which is making me very uncomfortable to have him at the head of this organization.

As a side note, I didn't realize it was Pelley who orchestrated the insane Sportsnet NHL deal... So he's got that going for him I guess?

Pelley is a money guy. He even admitted himself he's not a hockey guy. So the reins have pretty much been given to Treliving, and it may take a while for Pelley to figure out Treliving is not a good NHL GM.

Pelley being a money guy, his job is to make and keep the money. Leafs have stopped spending money on the back end.

- Shanahan contract not renewed, nobody replaced him
- Refusal to fire Berube and/or Treliving
-Backend sports science spending cut

This is what you get with corporate ownership. They can stand in front of the camera all they want and say they want to win, but the reality is they don't give a shit as long as the money keeps flowing.

I hear this narrative, 'the owners don't care about winning cuz they're making money' and I just don't think that is the case. These owners know that winning will bring in a lot more money and they've spent money in trying to win. Shanahan must have been a top paid NHL executive (if not the top paid executive) and they set a record spending on a coach.

I think not firing Berube and Treliving now is so they can do a proper reset in the offseason, not for monetary reasons. It'll give them more time to hire the best candidate and do more research. Sure they could fire Berube now, but it wouldn't cost them anything more because they wouldn't hire a new coach this season, they would just put an interim tag on Lalonde. Same goes for Treliving, they just slap an interim tag on Pridham so they're going to be no cost savings/spending with either of those moves.

I imagine you'll see a return of a team President this offseason depending on who is available. I have no idea what GM they will bring in, no one is screaming off the page for me. I'd be shocked if the new coach isn't Pete Deboer.

This team spends though. They give every middling player a huge signing bonus and they're will to spend on players and facilities. Honestly, at this point I think this is a vanity project for Ed Rogers and I have no doubt he is trying to win. Easier said than done. Hiring Treliving was not the right move and the Leafs are paying for it now.
