A real proactive GM would be identifying players who are not in the future and ruthlessly sit them, and I mean Rielly, Domi, etc.

If they were UFA sure. Guys with term and you want to try to move them without sweeteners from your depleted asset pool? Different handling required.
 
You know Guilt Trip, the thing that has really come home to me this year is the complacency of the org. I always thought that was a cheap criticism, but it sure looks valid now.

The team was obviously adrift back in October, November at the latest. The response? Radio silence from the GM. An utter lack of creativity from the coach. No accountability demanded of anyone.

The remaining games this season are really important. A new coach, even an interim one, could install a new playstyle. They could look at Marlies as I suggested above.

This is almost 25% of the season. Pissing it away, treading water, is criminal.

Why? Everybody in the league knows their strengths and weaknesses, and either are willing to live them or not.
 
Robertson is a flawed player but if the team played with 80% of his effort level they would be in a playoff spot right now

Thing is, even around here there were some arguing against doing what obviously needed done and that they could still make playoffs and come good once they adapted to Berube’s system or play style etc

So as long as there were people of that mindset in the fanbase it kind of gave the management an out
