He's a loser. I'm fine with grump old school opinions but I find him insufferable. I hate that I like Bourne and Sam McKee because I still listen to him for their takes.

1. Shitting on things garners more attention
2. It's easier to walk back if he's an excellent player than it is to call the move excellent and then watch him stink.

The Leafs signed the free agent with the most points last season, highest points per game last season, is also a defencemen, and is a right shot which is arguably their greatest area of need. How anyone can say this isn't a giant win for the Leafs is beyond me.

According to the well informed Kypreos 'ain't nobody was going to give him that contract. He didn't care about being a Toronto Maple Leafs player, they offered him the biggest contract that no one else was'
It was bugging me so I wanted the exact wording:

I don't think Kypreos is exactly wrong. I'm sure other teams were probably close in AAV but length of the contract was probably max 5 years. At 30 years old, someone is waving an 8 year contract at $8.5 AND it's in your home town? No brainer.

He said it with the thought that with the rising cap Makar and Hughes could get 17-18. They'll have to pony up to keep him for sure, maybe not 12, but it'll be a lot.

Should be fun even at 5v5. For so many years the Leafs controlled entries have hit trailing defensemen like… Benoit or Myers or some other puck-allergic defenseman to fire a muffin into the goalie’s crest or the nearest shin pad.

Chris Whalen argues Raddysh will have to take on more QB responsibilities since his success came via Kucherov, but the Leafs have Nylander, McKenna, Cowan, and Matthews as halfwall options. Three of them historically operate out of Kuch's korner and McKenna is stylistically very similar.
I can PP1 going with basically a Washington Capitals look. While extremely known for many years now, it was still basically unstoppable provided the personnel clicked and executed.
Raddysh is the John Carlson: they played the puck to the top a lot (safest, usually uncontested)
Matthews and McKenna are the Backstrom/Kuznetsov duo that are the leftwall cycle that share distribution duties. Both are going to draw a lot of attention from PKs.
Tavares is TJ Oshie in the bumper/slot, ready to crash on rebounds and help regain possession off shot attempts. Generally should not touch the puck after the faceoff until they are established in the OZ.
Nylander is Ovechkin, but with more playmaking to compensate the slight downgrade in fastball. The trick here is that PKs are going to forget about Nylander, the reverse of the Ovechkin effect.
PP2 still has enough to work with:
Knies and Paul down the middle
Cowan QB, and Jack Roslovic on the halfwalls
OEL/Andrae/Rielly up top
Roslovic and Knies can rip it quite well, but there's no true shooter win-condition like PP1, so the game plan is make chaos for the big boys in the middle to cash the up close rebounds. If they want to (not that he deserves it), Nylander could double shift the PPs just like Ovi to give it unit 2 more pop.
