Fraser to Edmonton

Gleason really made Fraser expendable.  Good trade for the Leafs clearing cap space, and potentially some assets down the road. 

I wish Fraser the best of luck in Edmonton.

Sounds like Hartikainen's got the 'gusto' the Leafs brass so adamantly cherish.
 
Hartikainen in the research I have pulled up was highly regarded by Edmonton fans and I saw him play in Phoenix and he did stand out with his play in that game.  I think he has a bit of upside. Perhaps if they trade Kuliman (which I hope they don't do) he would fit that role. 
Or you could have Hartikainen and Komorov as wingers on a finn line

Gleason gets full marks for me.  He slayed the Fraser beast.  I wish Fraser the best.  Last year, as a 3rd line defender he was for the most part, fine.  He's a 6th/7th/8th defenseman at his best, but with any sort of lower body injury becomes far too slow to play in the NHL.

If he has been getting healthier with time off and gets paired up with a speedy defenseman I think he could still have a bit of a career.  He was just too slow to be of any use.  You really couldn't call him out as a player who didn't try hard and compete for the team.  Character-wise he is good, and maybe that's something that the Edmonton Oilers need right now too.

Born in Kuopio, Finland.  Is regarded as a mediocre skater who plays very physical and is very active in front of the net and fighting for pucks in the corner.  Considered a strong energy player.  Limited offensive skill with the puck for NHL level hockey.

I think Fraser not being very good made Fraser expendable, he was scratched in the 8 games prior to the trade, got back in for 1 game and was a scratch for next 11, then got traded.
 
I thought Fraser was fine up until his injury this season.  He's been a bit of a pylon ever since.  I hope he can recover from whatever seems to be lingering around.

I agree that a pick would have been nice, but this will do.

Honestly, if either of them become an NHL player, this is a big win for the Leafs. Heck, just getting rid of the ~$450K remaining from Fraser cap hit is a win. I don't have high hopes for Hartikainen, but, if he decides to come back, we might be surprised.

Yup the cap space and the roster spot are the biggest wins in this deal.  Put the two prospects in the cupobard and don't hold your breath, but you never know.. they could amount to something.  Hartikainen has potential.

Eakins likes everything from his Marlies team of 2 years ago. I think he's trying to re-assemble it as depth under Hall/Hopkins/Eberle.

I was really rooting for Fraser.  I enjoyed his play last year and, lest anyone forget, he was receiving praise earlier this year after he returned to the lineup after starting the year hurt.  Then, after the subsequent injury, he returned to struggle terribly. 

He seems like a bright, articulate, and overall good guy.  Great chance for him to start fresh with a change of scenery and under a coach he played well for before.
 
I guess I was one of the few people on this board that liked what Fraser brought the team, from a toughness perspective.. But I beleive that Gleason brings more to the table, and is an upgrade in that position.

They'll target Matt Frattin next to reassemble that Marlies team.  Unfortunately we don't have all those Eakins-marlies lying around any longer.
