Carlo traded to St. Louis

Delete mine and keep this one with Friedman's tweet already embedded.

We turned two first round picks into a year+ of bad play and two 3rd round picks..........Treliving was a monster.

I don't hate moving on from him because he was not great and if the Leafs are looking to be more mobile, that should be a priority that he doesn't help. At the same time, I really do wonder how individual players are going to perform when not playing a system that prioritized playing turtle in the defensive zone.

Obviously a lot of time to figure out, but I'm curious what the Leafs plans are for the 3RD spot. I liked Carlo mostly because I think he was a bit of a mini-Tanev who could slide into that spot if/when Tanev misses some time. Think they still need someone with that profile for that spot.

Probably start with Villeneuve or Danford and see how that plays out.

Treliving did so much damage to this team it truly is unbelievable. I guess the Leafs view having the picks and prospects now as more valuable than Carlo next year even with a rebound. I'm really hoping they prioritize intelligent asset management which has been bereft from this franchise for almost as long as I can remember.

Good on Chayka not giving a crap what the previous GM paid for Carlo who doesn't fit into the plans. Notice how slow and not good puck mover Benoit was also moved? I'm good with the move. D needs to be revamped and to possibly make room for Villeneuve and Danford down the road.

Given how inert Tre was over the last year, I put this one on the former president of hockey ops. Death rattle of the Shanaplan.

He's a UFA after this year and, even with a nice rebound season, I don't see Toronto re-signing him anyway. So picking up two 3rd round picks in the top half of the round seems sensible (particularly for an expiring contract).
