Blue Jays 2016 Payroll

I don't see them both being re-signed. There is only 1 DH spot. Edwin is better off there than first base and Bautista is not long for the outfield with his declining skills.

Honestly, at this point, I expect them both to be traded this summer.

If the team isn't in the playoff race it would make sense. You still have Tulo and Donaldson to build around in the middle of the line up. Re-stock the shelves a bit after last years big push.

Even if they are in a playoff race isn't that the type of trade this team has to make, especially if they decide they don't have a chance at signing them to a contract they'd stomach? Can you really let them both walk in 2017 with nothing to show for it?

Yeah. I mean, outside of winning the World Series, it would be awfully hard to justify letting them both walk with only a pair of compensation picks in return.

They both have 10/5 rights. I would be surprised if they accept trades if the Jays are in the hunt for the division.

I'm not sure if they could stomach trading them in a playoff race, let alone the backlash they would face should one or both be traded then the Jays drop in the standings.

Bautista's speaks with interviewer Verducci of SI:

On his future with the Jays:
?I love the city,? Bautista said. ?I?d be stupid to to leave."

?I will explore every single option, whether it happens or not with the new regime, to continue to try to stay here,? Bautista said this spring. ?That being said, I think teams utilize that a lot against players, [seeking] a discount or bargain price, and I think that?s extremely unfair.?

On his fight with the Rangers Odor:
?Was [Odor] out to play baseball that day? Maybe partly,? Bautista said. ?Part of me also thinks that he was looking for adight."

?I know exactly what he was trying to do when he threw the ball,? he said. ?He tried a hundred per cent to hit me in the face."

?I could have hit him,? Bautista said. ?I could have hurt him. I chose not to. My cleats were down. I slid through the bag. Was it late? Yes, a hundred per cent. But what can I do after they hit me? Should I ask my manager to let me pitch, which he is never going to let me do? Like, what am I supposed to do? Just sit there and take it??
