2018 Toronto Blue Jays General Season Thread

Jays skipper John Gibbons had a field-wide smile.  And rightly so, as thw Jays delivered a solid game in all areas to sway to a 5-3 win over the sad sack Orioles last night.

Led by DH Kendrys Morales who not only had two home runs but four RBIs in total, and by outfielder Kevin Pillar who swatted an RBI double,  and who drew the ire of Gibby's wrath in Sunday's 10-2 loss to the Yankees.

Jays starter Marco Estrada got win #7 and Ken Giles got the save.

Overall,  a feel good game to smile about.

Going, going, going...goners!

Got to feel somewhat sorryfor the hapless, sadsack Baltimore Orioles as the Blue Jays showed no mercy in swatting out four homers -- one each by McKinney, Diaz, Smoak, and Morales  -- enroute to an 8-2 drubbing of the Orioles.
This was a total team game adjustable about every Blue Jays contributed to the win.

Jays starter Sam Gaviglio got the win in going seven innings in allowing just two runs and striking out seven.

Score one for Thomas Pannone!

Jays starter Pannone threw a one-hitter in seven innings, (he actually had a no-hitter going),  and got his first win in his d?but as a starter in last night's 6-0 Blue Jays shutout of the Orioles.

The Jays pounded out the hits again with the red-hot Kwndrys Morales  with another home run and Devon Travis' three-run shot also provided the histrionics on the scoreboard.

For Morales, it was just his 18th home run on the year, tying him with Teoscar Hernandez and one behind leader Justin Smoak.

The Blue Jays have an off-day Thursday before resuming versus the Phillies Friday.

The Philadelphia Phillies (69-58) arrive at Toronro for a three-game Interleague series against the Toronto Blue Jays (58-69).

The Philadelphia Phillies are currenrly second in the N.L.East, 3.0 GBL Arlanta Atlanta Braves,  and 1.0 GB both Colorado & Milwaukee foe the second WC spot.

The Blue Jays swept the Baltimore Orioles in their most recent homestand and will see the return of starter Aaron Sanchez as well as Lourdes Gurriel Jr, from the DL.  Sanchez has been out for several weeks plagued by a recurrance of the blistered finger problem, Gurriel had been out for a shorter time with knee sprain.
Jays fans looking forward to their return in further bolstering the lineup.

I believed at one point baseballs were actually made in Haiti, perhaps their major export outside of some pretty good rum they make there. think is is called Barbancourt.
Worth a try if you have an open mind or just love Rum like me. They changed the baseball and now our pitchers all have blisters and can't pitch.  Brilliant minds that rule some business's
 
Nice win for the Jays Friday night on a few fronts 4-2 over the the Phillies.

Kendrys Morales' solo homer was his 19th of the year and fifth straight this month, tying him with ex-Jay Jose Bautista for that record.

Billy McKinney hit a two-run home run;  Kevin Pillar showed off his Superman throw  in nabbing a runner attempting to steal home plate; Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was back in the lineup and his streak of 11 consecutive multi-hit game hits came to an end.  Still, he is the first rookie since Shoeless Joe Jackson in 1911 to accomplish the feat, two shy of the record set by Roger Hormsby in 1932.  Impressive.

Jays starter Ryan Borucki pitched a little over seven innings in allowing two runs and striking out five.  A solid outing for Borucki in recovering from that Yankees debacle of an outing awhile ago where he was tagged with six runs.  Tough to do for a young lad, but Borucki shook off the negatives and it was nothing but a positive outcome for the win.
Tepera & Clippard came in for relief work and Giles closed out and got the save.

The Jays Morales sets club record for homering in seven consecutive games.  He tied seven others in MLB history and also Morales becomes the first DH & pinch-hitter in the Majors to do so.

Even though the Blue Jays lost this afternoon 8-3 to the Phillies, Toronto still takes the series two out of three. 
On Saturday,  the Jays came from  behind to win it 8-6.  More importantky, the game featured the return of starting pitcher Aaron Sanchez.  He had no blister problems in throwing and went six innings giving up four runs.  Encouraging outing for Sanchez who had been previously sidelined for several weeks.

Well, it sure wasn't vintage Sanchez, after having been on the DL then rehabbing.  Guess it'll take time for him to get back in his groove.  Couple more starts should do it.

The Toronto Blue Jays (60-70) venture to Oriole Park at Camden Yards for a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles (37-94).

The Orioles, who have the dubious diatinction of owning the worst record in the Major Leagues this season, got swept zip when they played the Blue Jays in Toronto recently.

The Blue Jays took two out of three from the Phillies in their most current homestand and without a doibt the star of the show was Kendrys Morales.

Morales not only set a club record of hiting seven consecutive home runs, but became the first DH & pinch-hitter to do so in the Majors.
Morales has the opportunity to tie a MLB record of eight straight tonight.

The one that got away.

The Blue Jays tried to come-from-behind on home runs by Justin Smoak & Kevin Pillar but still trailing,  until Devon Travis' solo homer in the fifth inning tied it up at five apiece.

With starter Borucki having been dinged with a Grand Slam previously, and in spite of the fact he still pitched decently, reliever Danny Barnes was brought in to start the sixth, and the Orioles put up runs on the board.

Enter Ken Giles who fared no better in giving up three more, and hence the final score was 10-5 in favour of Baltimore Wednesday and an Orioles sweep of the series.

The Jays are off today but will resume playing on the road against the Miami Marlins Friday.

The Blue Jays (60-73) continue their road trip with a stop at Marlins Park in a three-game Interleague series against the Miami Marlins (53-81).

The Marlins are dead last in their NL East division and evidently out of playoff contention.

The Blue Jays come off having being swept three straight by the Baltimore Orioles in their most recent road trip.  Not a flattering way to lose to a team that is considered baseball's worst.  Anyways, it happened.  Forgedaboudit and move on.

The reliever-loving Tampa Bay Rays (73- 63) slide into town for a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays (62-74) here at the Rogers Centre.

Did it say reliever-loving?  Yep, you read it correctly, as the Rays have employed their relief pitchers as starters, and whose relievers have logged the most innings of any team in the league this season -- 6532/3 innings -- a MLB record!

The Rays are currently third in the A.L. East division 20 GBL Boston, and 8 GB for the WC spot.

The Blue Jays took two out of three in their most recent road series against the Miami Marlins.

This will be the start of a seven game homestand for Toronto.

I think I'm a Cleveland Indians fan now. Encarnacion last season and now Donaldson. All my favourite Jays play for someone else now.
