I think the biggest thing about Shapiro is think of him less as the Xs and Ox guy and more of the guy who spearheaded the renovations to the training facilities in Dunedin....the retrofits of Buffalo during COVID, and the revamping of the Skydome. I think Shapiro is more of what you want in a Team President/CEO where he's a sports guy but is more of the business thinking guy.

I'm fine with that.

I do think there needs to be a discussion on how the Jays on field performance has played out over the last decade despite a pretty consistent top 10 or better payroll but its the business side of the Jays that Shapiro has excelled at.

I didn't realize Keon went to the WHA. What rights does he have to be angry at the Leafs for.not retiring his number?

Looks like Ron Ellis is currently the answer. If only Borje Salming hadn't gone to the Red Wings for that last season. Kind of like Daniel Alfredsson.

Keon had a good case that he got run off or not appreciated by owner Ballard. Ballard low balled him after 15 seasons of good hockey.

Probably Ellis is the correct answer. I did not spend much time considering a player who wasn't as prominent. It is possible I overlooked someone. Captain George Armstrong retired about ~10 years before Ellis did. It's a blur - a lot of Leafs since Armstrong ..

Statistically, you would think they would be closer to the team they were for the previous 5 seasons prior to last season than they were to last year's team. Marner, Tanev, and an injured Matthews was a massive subtraction.

Add back Tanev and Matthews, add swapping Raddysh into Reilly's role, and subtract the gap between Mackenna and Marner, and we should be a lot closer to who they were prior to last season.

Matthews can return to pre-Berube form
Roslovic can be somewhat of a better hockey player than Maccelli
McKenna can keep some gas in the tank
The third line isn't a black hole offensively and defensively
The fourth line can chew minutes without getting scored on and maybe chip in a few goals
Bobrovsky isn't on a sunset cruise
Stolarz stays healthy

26/27 Leafs feel like an overall more defensively responsible team. I actually like the current third line. Cowan showed he can excel on a third line and isn't afraid to backcheck and throw a hit (gud pro). I won't miss Robertson, and although I wish him well, I won't miss Domi as long as he's out. If you're not in the top 6 you have some defensive ability.

There isn't really a reason for Reilly to cheat anymore, so hopefully we'll see fewer odd-man rushes with him out there. He's a good teammate and has always been asked to do more than he can. If he's down the depth chart, he might surprise.
