2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Not really. I guess if it takes him out through the Olympics its good if he gets healthy but I don't think Nylander is going to miss the Olympics unless his legs fall off.

Nick & Jason Robertson have both changed agents to Andy Scott at Octagon (who also reps Leon Draisaitl, Mikko Rantanen), per Friedman. Both brothers are RFA at the end of this season.

Everyone (and I mean every possible Leaf fan, including me, a hater) would have been way more happy if Mitch Marner just converted to full time RD here.

1. Everyone would think he's a hero for filling a hard-to-fill niche
2. His skillset and aptitudes fit: Cale Makar style
3. No one would gripe about him scoring 14 G 68 A on the season for 11M; it would be celebrated

Attach him to a cheap crease-clearing father figure and he's set.

Why do the Leafs need the Devils to retain salary? If the ask isn't that much, then couldn't the Leafs offer:

Joshua or Maccelli (Maccelli is an RFA so they could walk away from him, Joshua is long term, but possibly tradeable)
Jarnkrok (UFA at years end)
Simon Benoit (Contract that can be buried)

The Leafs currently have 2 million in space, and I think that is without putting Tanev on LTIR. The math on the three players above puts them at 8.7 million which is close to what Hamilton makes.

If you figure the power play is going to get a boost by having a real quaterback running it, then I am not sure why they are worried about the $9 million price tag.
