2025-26 General Trades & Signings

Coyle is currently 34 years old, signed 6x6
Am I the only one who doesn't think this contract is that crazy? He's a massive right-handed centerman who eats defensive zone face-offs, frequently matches up against other teams best players, and has hit 60 (or 58) points in 2 of the past 3 seasons. He's getting old sure but this deal should at least be pretty fine for a few years in a world where the ceiling is over $100mil now and will likely push past $130mil sometime in the second half of the deal.

Both him and Schmaltz could have done much better on July 1st.

No, but you gotta think the last two years of the deal are a write off.

I think it's fine. probably could've swung an 8M x 3 on the market, but would be eating league min after, so makes sense for all parties.

Didn't think anyone would love Columbus so much though

Boone Jenner is a great utility guy who can do a bit of everything.
I've been a fan of Jenner for years now, but despite being younger than Coyle I'd be way more hesitant to get into long term situations with him. Lots of miles on that body and it's been ages now since he's been able to get through a full season without an injury. Southern Ontario guy though so if he's got some Leafs pajamas stashed away somewhere and wants to be here for a reasonable rate you'd have to consider him for sure.

Seeing as this will probably lead to the inevitable Larkin or Hellebyuck to Florida trade I'm really confused as to why teams keep bending over backwards to make it easier for teams that already have an income tax advantage. This trade is baffling to me.

With all the extra cap space teams having, we're going to a few contracts that seem bloated compared to what we're used to. $5.75m is liek the new $4.5M
I think I'm also just used to his numbers when he was here. I don't know if a 40pt guy who is kind of one dimensional is worth $4.5M in previous years.

It is a lot for McMann but it was expected that he would get 5 yrs for between 5 and 6 mil
Not everyone scores 29 goals with somewhat limited ice time.
Big cap jump helped make it possible
We do seem to be seeing a few more older players blooming late
Raddysh, Shea, ...
It is early but some signings so far are coming in higher than AFP expected (possibly the best ones go for more ..)

I like Dickinson (and this caption is funny) but the term is a bit much. Cost of doing business these days?

Yes - particularly for centers but there will be a lot of overpayment due to demand exceeding supply.
