My lawnmower is faster than any Toyota

Challenge accepted.  My corolla vs your lawnmower.  $10,000 stakes.

Toyota may make reliable vehicles, however, they are the most boring, pedestrian vehicles made. My lawnmower is faster than any Toyota.... My MS3 is currently rocking 275 HP and 300 foot pounds of torque... Mazda FTW. I don't think there is a stock car out there for under $45k - $50k that can beat my vehicle (or any other MS3) on the track.

All depends what you're looking for I suppose.  The 1/4 mile speed of my Rav 4 really didn't come into the equation for me.  :P

Same.  I just wanted a relatively cheap but highly reliable vehicle that could get me from A to B.  Corolla it is.

Yup. Living in a part of the world where going significantly faster than 100 km/h can get you into a lot of unnecessary trouble and, generally, there aren't a lot of day to day opportunities to go significantly north of 60 km/h, things like fuel efficiency and reliability become so much more important than speed. I'm quite happy with my Toyota, thank you very much. 15 years old and still running strong.

Go around a corner and tell me how fast a Mustang GT goes. Are they still using a live rear axle on those things?

You really need to check into how well Ford has engineered that platform.  It's quite amazing.  They're now building a 200mph Mustang off that platform.

Having said that, the 2015 car is supposed to, for the first time, have an independent rear suspension.

I get sucked into these car conversations....and Toyota is awesome...read up on the Scion FR-S.

I have no interest in the 1/4 mile. Boring.

I've modded my car a little. Cobb sri, Cobb springs, Koni yellows, Tri-Point rear sway bar, vip rg2 rims, Falken 452's / 235-40-18 tires. Handles like its on Rails. My Ms3 will outperform vehicles that are way more expensive. I pay $350 a month... Probably the same as most people pay for a boring car that can't pass at highway speeds.

To each their own :-)

I had to go check that out, because there is no way you are walking out of a dealership with that for under 40k...

Ok... Again, bang for the buck. With 0 down and 5.79% interest rate (lol), for 60 months, $722 a month for the stang and I'm sure there are things that the website doesn't show in respect to more money it will cost.

I put down $8500 on my car (almost 5 yrs ago, before car manufacturers hit a low and are offering all these incentives!), I'm paying $352/month. That stang would be about $550/month (roughly, with 8500 down, not including any othe fees not shown on the site) and that's base model. My MS3 is fully loaded. The stang has 390ft lbs of torque @ 4250rpm, only 90 more then my car which produces it at 3000rpm, the stang also weighs a little more then the ms3.

On the track (road track, not 1/4 mile), bang for the buck (hp/tq to $$), resale value, cargo space etc.... ms3 every day (imho).

Again, go to the dealer and try and get that price, by the time u add the freight, pdi, taxes, interest rate etc.... they are 50k cars, trust me, I know, I almost bought both.

The evo is my fav, then STi. One day.... One day...

We bought a 2007 Mazda5 about 4 months ago.  The last two weeks we've really noticed it's going through oil.

Today is the second time in 2 weeks that it's in the Mazda dealership.  It's starting to look like engine replacement.  It's not a leak, it's not going into the coolant, it the compression is fine.  They're running more tests this afternoon.   UGHHH!

I've had some frustrating ongoing problems with a Mazda (Tribute) I bought a few years back myself, starting the same year I got it (2009).
Things like Dome light issues, windshield wiper malfunctions, engine not turning on, brake pedal gyrations; pretty much a cornucopia of neverending problems.
In short; Mazda is awful. :(

From the sounds of it, you guys both bought used vehicles, who knows what the owner before you did to those vehicles, if they were maintaned well etc... Any used car can have problems, especially once the warranty is up.  That's the chance you take with buying used, one reason I only buy new vehicles.

Nope got it brand spanking new from the factory. Have had continuous problems since inception, all the way through and past warranty.
