Non-Hockey Chatter / Free apps for blackberry users starting Oct 19th
« on: October 17, 2011, 12:23:00 PM »
Due to the recent outage of last week, RIM is offering over a $100 worth of free apps, starting Oct 19th for four weeks, here is a list of the apps already set to be free, with more to be added:

• SIMS 3 - Electronic Arts
• Bejeweled - Electronic Arts
• N.O.V.A. - Gameloft
• Texas Hold’em Poker 2 - Gameloft
• Bubble Bash 2 - Gameloft
• Photo Editor Ultimate - Ice Cold Apps
• DriveSafe.ly Pro - iSpeech.org
• iSpeech Translator Pro - iSpeech.org
• Drive Safe.ly Enterprise - iSpeech.org
• Nobex Radio™ Premium - Nobex
• Shazam Encore - Shazam
• Vlingo Plus: Virtual Assistant - Vlingo

This probably won't satisfy most users, there will be complaints still, but the outage didn't last that long and is the first one I have experienced. I have a blackberry because of BBM, I love that app. I may pick up one or two of the free apps, like the translator one and maybe the photo editor one.

Toronto News: Tim Connolly remained on an extra line at practice on Friday and will not play on Saturday. Connolly has yet to fully engage in physical contact as he looks to overcome an upper-body injury. Colton Orr is expected to take Jay Rosehill's spot on the fourth line tomorrow night. The 29-year-old did not play in the opener against Montreal, likely based on the lack of enforcers in their lineup. Nazem Kadri was seen skating briefly this morning, but will likely miss another couple weeks with a knee strain. - TSN

Ottawa News: Centre Peter Regin, troubled by a shoulder injury, won’t be in the lineup vs. the Wings and likely won’t also suit up Saturday in Toronto. - Ottawa Sun

Toronto News: David Steckel joined his new teammates at practice on Wednesday, centering a line with Phillipe Dupuis and Colby Armstrong. Tim Connolly took part in practice for the second consecutive day (upper-body injury), but did not play alongside projected linemates Joffrey Lupul and Phil Kessel and appears highly doubtful to play against the Habs on Thursday. Non-Hockey Chatter / Question about the Bond Place hotel in Toronto
« on: August 26, 2011, 01:53:39 PM »
Has anyone ever stayed there before?

Seems like one of the few places that are room available when I plan on coming and still pretty close to Maple Leaf Square area. I just have never heard of it before and was wondering what its like there, 175$ a night seems a bit high, so I'd like to know its worth the price.

Thanks!

Should James Reimer be worried about the sophomore jinx?
J. Carey, Boston, Mass.

Great question. Statistically, the jury is still out on the diminished effectiveness of players in their second year, but the clean-living, non-smoking, well-spoken Reimer is more likely to be hit by a streetcar than rest on a season that did not finish in the playoffs. Big headedness isn’t usually an issue with kids from Morweena although they do show a tendency to bore listeners while expounding on the different varieties of wheat native to the prairies.

What does the future hold for Ron Wilson?
B. Burke, Toronto, Ontario

Ron is conscious of his health. He doesn’t smoke, exercises regularly and toys with reporters as a stress relief. I would be very surprised if he didn’t live to be 80, maybe 85.

I understand Leaf prospect David Broll is nicknamed ‘The Steambroller.’ Any other nicknames worth trying out.
C T Bear, Toronto, Ontario

Glad you asked Mr. Bear. Top candidates: Darryl Rolls Boyce, Tyler Czecho Bozakian, Jolten’ Colton Orr. Keith Aulie Aulie All Come Free, Mike Komisavarek, Matt Laugh Your Lashoff, Joey Alaskan King Crabb.

Is this a make it or break it year for Nazem Kadri?
J. Tlusty, Raleigh, North Carolina.

I don’t think so, but his back is really going to be against the wall when he turns 21.

Will Leaf fans riot when the team wins the Stanley Cup?
Sgt. D Doright, Yellowknife, NWT.

Dear, Sgt. Leaf fans won’t break a single pane of glass, let alone overturn a car. They don’t roll that way. For that matter, neither do Canuck fans or Hab fans.

Obviously a humour article, a few funny ones I included in this thread, there are also a few more, click the link to read them.

TMLfans.ca Events / Pick'em rules
« on: August 23, 2011, 09:32:17 AM »
This game is pretty basic and easy to understand, you get a list of 6 games that are happening on the weekend (Sat-Sun, Fri games are thrown in sometimes too). You then select which teams you think will win and assign a point value to each team, 6 points to the team you are most confident will win, 5 points to the next team you are more confident and so on, you can only use each point value once (6,5,4,3,2,1) here is an example:

Leafs 6 - Sept 24th - Leafs @ Sabres 19:00 EST
Sens 1 - Sept 24th - Sens @ Habs 19:00 EST
Panthers 4 - Sept 24th - Lightning @ Panthers - 19:30 EST
Oilers 5 - Sept 24th - Flames @ Oilers - 20:00 EST
Jets 3 - Sept 24th - Jets @ Predators -  20:30 EST
Ducks 2 - Sept 24th - Ducks @ Canucks - 22:00 EST

Picks are due before the earliest game starts, so in this example you have to pick before the Leafs/Sabres and Sens/Habs game. No changing of picks once the earliest game has started. Any poster submitting their picks after the earliest game starts, won't have their picks tallied for that week and any poster modifying their submission after the earliest game starts, will have all their picks for that week not count.

If anything is unclear or missing, let me know and I will add it in or change it.

TMLfans.ca Events / 2011-2012 NHL Pool
« on: August 23, 2011, 09:17:27 AM »
I am thinking of starting up a pool for the upcoming NHL season, it will be like past years when we had one, you would have groups of players and can only pick one player per group, no trades, free, just pick your players and ride out the season, before I get started on it though I was wondering if anyone is interested in joining it? It would be hosted by http://www.puckhogpools.com/

TORONTO - An out-of-control airport limo veered off a roadway and crashed into the fence of the home owned by Maple Leaf Colby Armstrong early Monday.

The 53-year-old man driving the Lincoln Town Car was killed in the 5:53 a.m. crash on Royal York Rd. north of Dundas St.

Toronto Const. Tony Vella said the car was headed north on Royal York when the driver suffered a medical condition.

The black, four-door car mounted the east curb and struck two trees, landscaping stones and the wooden fence.

The car was crunched by the impact.

Armstrong said he heard the terrific impact of the crash but felt uncomfortable talking about the incident because the driver died.
