2026-27 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion | Official: Sundin & Chayka to lead front office

I'm actually okay with them holding pat to see what they have. On the left side you have (no particular order):
McCabe
Rielly
OEL
Andrae

And on the right side (no particular order):
Raddysh
Tanev
Carlo
Meyers
Villeneuve (Possibly)
Danford (Possibly)

That's not too bad.

Maybe they are looking to add a bigger name, they have the cap space, just not top six space. You wouldn't healthy scratch any of those top six.

I think we can interpret what is going on here as there has been a price set on players, and the Leafs won't move those players unless the price is hit. This is good. They aren't moving people just for the sake of moving them.

Now, hopefully the reverse is also true, where the Leafs will have a price point for obtaining a player, and if the ask is over that price point, they won't do the move. That is also a necessary thing to have.

So all reports are Leafs were asking for the sun and moon for Knies, which is great. I'd rather have a GM that wants other teams to over-pay rather than just making a trade for the sake of it. I'm not against trading Knies, but it better be a damn haul of players coming back.

Chayka has been out of the league for about 6 seasons.
He's getting one heck of a crash course in what the other 31 GMs and his staff think about a bunch of his players, what they think about the players being offered around the league, about the UFAs that are available and he's getting acquainted or reacquainted with the other 31 GMs in the league. So far, they're all finding out he hasn't blinked.

Which I am hopeful is a good sign. The problem with Treliving is that he had no idea what he wanted to do, so he had no idea the value of players coming in and the value of players going out.

Seeing what 1st round picks are going for right now compared to what we used them on is so, so, so depressing.

Thank god for the number 12.
