Anyway some actual notes I had on Vegas:

-Marner has 11 goals and 47 points in 45 games in his first post-Toronto season. That would be the lowest goals per game rate of his entire careeer, and the worst assists and points per game rates over his past 8 seasons. Obviously not off to a great start but the Leafs (and Matthews) probably need to do more to erase their rough starts too before the snark can start.
-Yes, that's Marner at centre. He's been playing there for about 3 weeks now. It initially started as Vegas had a rash of injuries to centres, especially to Eichel, but even when Jack came back Marner mostly started in the middle. Their coach obviously likes his playmaking and defensive abilities there. A 38% faceoff percentage could force him back to the wing eventually though.
-Vegas' goaltending has been a mess this season. Hill (.888 Sv%) got injured early. Carter Hart has a .871 Sv% through 12 games since signing with the team and is currently out with an injury too. Akira Schmid has mostly held down the fort somehow going 14-4-5 with a .896 Sv%. He started last night though so the Leafs will see Vegas' 4th string goalie: 22-year old rookie Carl Lindbom (2-4-2, 3.00 GAA, .873 Sv% this season). Lindbom was the 3rd last player selection in the 2021 draft (7th round, 222nd overall). While I had that page open I was surprised to see that five players selected in the 7th round that year have already played NHL games, and 3 of them have over 30 GP

They have had their share of upheaval with injuries.
They lost Pietrangelo to permanent LTIR before the start of the season.
Their top 3 remaining dmen have missed about 1/4 of the season.
In the top 6, Eichel, Stone and Karlsson all missed a bunch of games. Karlsson is still out and that is a factor for why they are trying Marner at center. Marner was never good at faceoffs.
Earlier in the season, Marner's PP points were down. With he and Eichel on the 1st unit, you have two puck distributors when only one is arguably needed and the incumbent, Eichel, was established as knowing all the plays. Marner's PP numbers came around some when Eichel went down.
Leafs PP suffered without Marner. Marner's PP suffered transitioning to his new team.
It is a work in progress around their injuries.

Knies not at the morning skate, but Robertson is.

Practice lines make it look like Knies probably checks in L1, but Knies-Laughton-Lorentz would feel like a hilarious luxury.

This seems more proper
McMann-Matthews-Domi
Maccelli-Tavares-Nylander
Knies-Roy-Robertson
Lorentz-Laughton-Cowan

Cowan's puck moving is generating chances, but Cowan's weak sauce puck holding is also generating chances the other way.

The point for an OTL thing is crazy. If you were to treat an OTL as a loss, which technically it is, because the team lost in extra time, then Vegas would have a record of 22 - 23, whereas the Leafs would have a record of 23 - 23, yet Vegas has 3 more points than the Leafs.
