Series 41: Indians at Jays

So, maybe the Jays need to think about turning Travis into something other than a 2B . . . I think 1B is the only position that's open for next year.

Not including tonight Goins hitting .305, OPS .851 since July 29th (28 games). And oh yeah he's not bad in the field either.

Gonna need to see improved offense for a lot longer to start thinking about that with Goins.

I was mostly joking, but, really, with the offensive depth the Jays have, if he can put up average-ish numbers at the plate, combined with his exceptional defence, it may actually be something the team needs to consider.

Goins, Goins, Gone!
When the Goins gets tough, the tough gets Goins.
He keeps Goins and Goins.
It's Goins so well!
BlueJays squad was Goins up on a Tuesday!
This is Goins to be the year.

Interesting fact:

With the win over Cleveland last night, the Blue Jays equalled their w/l record they have at this point -- 75-57 -- that they had during their championship years of 1992 & 1993.

Hmm. Good luck sign?  Destiny?  Coincidence?  All three probably (hopefully).  :)

GO JAYS GO!!

Its  amazing to see so many players playing better for having better teamates around them and Goins is a prime example, everyone is playing at peak level.

If you want tickets to a Jays game going forward...go today or be prepared to pay for a scalper because the rest of the year is pretty much sold out.

I think it depends on how legit you think Travis' half a season was really. A 2B who can OPS .850+ and play solid defense is more valuable than Goins could realistically be. If you think he was hitting over his head, sure, but with Travis you could be talking about a 5+ win player.

I'm mostly concerned about his ability to stay healthy enough to be that player. The problem is, he doesn't really have the physical stature to play 1B. While his injuries were not fielding related, I think there may be a need to move him to less physically demanding position.

Is that based solely on this injury suffered this season?

Without getting into the health concerns specifically, that seems like a largely separate issue from whether or not Goins has actually supplanted Travis. If you don't think Travis is the team's long term answer at second base, that issue exists independently of Goins having a hot month.

The one that seemed like a pretty minor thing but still hasn't healed properly? Yeah.

From what I understand it's an injury that simply needs time and he tried to either play through it or get a cortisone shot to try to come back this season.  I don't see anywhere where it's considered to be some sort of ongoing concern, they were just trying to avoid sitting out the time recommended for it to heal.  Seems early to suggest it could affect him for years going forward.

It's less about this injury specifically, but more about how long it's taken to heal and how easily he was re-injured. It's not like they rushed him back in a couple weeks. He missed almost a month and a half before coming back. It looks like he missed a chunk of the year last season as well (minor league injury info is a little harder to pin down). There are potential red flags there and the team may want to be wary of them. That's all I'm saying.

How about that Donaldson slide/dive into home!?!? The guy is a gamer! Maybe not quite as dramatic as Kelly Gruber's chin busting belly flop slide into home but entertaining to say the least.

They just keep making it happen.
