That's probably the most you can say for it. Some of the new guys are more mobile than the guys they replaced.

Really, though, can anyone actually any significant changes to the Leafs' defensive systems? They really look like marginally less strict versions of last season's.

Well, they don't collapse to the net as much, especially on the PK.

Gardiner screwed up, but that was a very stoppable puck IMO. Bernier didn't play the angle right.

Well, they don't collapse to the net as much, especially on the PK.

The PK is much better, but, that's a direct result of changing the assistants. Horachek took over the PK duties from Cronin (I think it was Cronin, at least). And, yeah, they don't collapse quite as much - though, it certainly hasn't improved their effectiveness, and, well, I wonder how much of it is some improved mobility that makes it look that way. They might just not stay collapsed as long rather than actually doing so less.

Franson getting outmuscled by Cullen there wasn't exactly impressive. Roy beating Phaneuf to the puck isn't great, but, Roy is one of the better skaters in the game. He's gonna get ahead of a lot of people.
