Playoffs Round 2: Panthers vs. Maple Leafs

I know in general, winning game 1 is usually pretty important in a series, but it seems even more important in this one. It'll be a tough slog for the Leafs if they get down in the series right away.
 
I started a goal tracker for this series as well, and wouldn't you know it: 9 goals in two games
  • Core 4 in on 6 goals
  • 5 counter rush goals
  • Two very weak goals on Bob from the Leafs 1st line
  • Nylander with 3G 1A; Pacioretty with 1G 3A to lead scoring
  • Leafs Defense picked up 10 pts so far in two games; they had 7 pts against Ottawa in 6, which gives you an indication of what type of offense is succeeding this time around

The Leafs have basically matched their offensive output against Florida from 2 years ago.

Well I guess that Berube is vindicated for his pick of Pac over Robertson...for now...
 
Our house is adorned with Leaf flags and Leaf LEDs during this playoffs.

I saw my neighbor the other day and asked him if he was watching the playoffs. He is from Winnipeg and follows the Blackhawks. He told me he was cheering for the Jets.... but he really dislikes the Leafs.

He came over today to officially apologize for such an insensitive comment.

Not to say that massive amounts of blame isn't to be had higher in the line-up too but Holmberg's 0-3 in on-ice goals this series and taken more penalties than he's drawn. The magic's over. Florida changed out an entire line already this series, our bottom-6 needs a big shake-up too.

I'm ok with Holmberg (or someone else) sitting next game to see if Nicky can bring some additional scoring punch.

If we lost this game 5-4 I think I might look at it differently but OT and Game 4 reminded me of the Leafs who get some chances but can't finish. Put in the guy who has a chance to score a cheap one because of how good his shot is
 
I said it as a hot Take at the very beginning of series. Leafs will need to win this series without 34 and 16.

Its not about injuries....its just who they are. But there are a lot of guys on this roster who are there to fight. Here is a list:

Stolarz
Knies
Willy Nylander
Tanev
Benoit
Pacioretty
Woll
McCabe


There are other guys who do their job too....like Laughton and OEL and Tavares and Rielly.


But Matthews and Marner have never been on that list and I doubt they will change that about themselves as they knock on the door of age 30.

Really a shame when guys like Woll and Stolarz stand on their head, and Tanev takes 80 checks, and Benoit eats pucks even more than Tanev, and Knies motors thru crowds to score, and Willy puts on a cape for the team!

Love this team. They are carrying dead cap hit in the playoffs....and still being competitive.
