I didnt see much of the game but what I did watch seemed to look like Nylander was winning a lot of his face-offs last night

Good for Bernier to get the shutout (12th of his career).  As coach also Babcock noted, hope this gives him more confidence to get back to playing a little more consistently.

I forgo watching this game, and, low and behold, the Leafs pull out a win! 

I would have rather they showed up to beat the Senaturds, however, on the other hand, this win over the Wings helps the Pens. 

Oh well, maybe if I skip watching all of our remaining games, we win out the remainder of the season.  :-\

The Leafs played a real stifling game against the Wings. Great to see. You can't lose them all!

I didn't watch the game, but is "stifling" the right word here? They were outshot 38-27 and Detroit had 58% of the shot attempts at even-strength. Seems like one Bernier just stole, no?

The Leafs stifled the neutral zone most of the night (hard gap closure), but Detroit's talented team broke through enough times for some quality chances. Bernier did indeed stand tall(er than usual), but a lot of the shots on were the D giving him fairly clean looks and minimizing scramble opportunities.

It was a pretty back and forth night for both teams on the second game of a back-to-back, but the Leafs clearly had a speed advantage for more of the game thanks to the rest they got against Ottawa.

I was really surprised to see the Leafs have a positive shot differential this year, and sit 10th in the league (+.9). They were 26th last season (-4.3), 29th in 2013/14 (-8.0), and 29th in 2012/13 (-5.9). I haven't paid much attention to this stat before, but it speaks, at least partly, to some of the positive changes Babcock has implemented.

Since the Phaneuf trade they're actually 1st in the league in unadjusted CF%, 2nd in score-adjusted CF%. 2nd last in shooting percentage and last in save percentage though.

I'm fairly certain the shooting percentage will improve (next season, please) with some of the young guys coming in. As far as save percentage goes, who knows how that whole thing plays out, but I wouldn't be surprised if the next starter comes from outside the organization.
