Only 30 points last year but one year removed from a 30G/60 point season

Was much better once he left Detroit.  Great first round for the Bruins. A worthwhile gamble, for sure.

Oh yeah I think this is solid risk at a good price.

I wouldn't hate Tavares-Marner-Bertuzzi if we went Knies-Matthews-Nylander

Not sure what to make of the contract, but it adds a desperately needed player to the forward group so no real complaints.

I hope this moves keeps Knies out of the top-6. I think he could be a solid complimentary player on one of those lines for sure, but I think his scoring touch is significantly more needed on the 3rd line.

Bertuzzi quietly has some pretty good possession numbers in his career.

I don't mind the 1 year deal - power forwards like him tend to fall off a cliff the later they go in their careers as their bodies break down, so I think it's better to go short if you can.

Roster/cap update:

Bertuzz-Matthews-Marner
Jarnkrok-Tavares-Nylander
Knies-Kampf-Lafferty
McMann-Holmberg-Reaves

Rielly-Brodie
McCabe-Liljegren
Giordano-Klingberg
Timmins

Murray
Woll

That roster has $602,717 in cap space without Samsonov, pretty much confirming that Murray is on the way out either via trade or buyout. Samsonov @ $3.5mil and Murray bought out still leaves $1.1mil in cap space. Murray traded with his cap hit fully wiped out is $1.79mil.

You do wonder if there's a trade as well. I like Brodie but you wonder if his $5M can be deployed more efficiently, maybe with another salary retained defenseman...

Maybe. I think there's a decent chance we see Timmins shopped too. Either maybe for a young forward who might be able to step in at 3C or for a physical LHD who can swap in and out with Giordano at times. Klingberg makes his path to playing much tougher.

So is he a bigger, tougher, Bunting replacement? Hoped it'd be more than a 1yr.

I think they are trying to keep space for Nylander and Matthews next year.  Keeping their options open.

I think it is kind of like a bridge deal.
He'll put up big numbers in the Leafs top 6 and get a better contract next summer (kind of like so many Leafs did this summer).

He was one of the better forwards available. Fills a long standing void on left wing.

In that way, it is arguably a good, fair deal for both parties.

Size, snarl, and offensive ability.  Give him a show-me deal with it.

Love these last two signings.  One-year deals for good talents and not a bunch of fluff.

Historically his PP numbers haven't been elite or anything but Bertuzzi absolutely shredded Florida in the playoffs as the net front guy on Boston's PP. Having him, Klingberg, and Knies gives the Leafs the opportunity to have a legitimate 2nd PP unit either based around those 3 or by spreading things out some more.

Some stuff about the Leafs still in on Domi....we are trading Nylander aren't we
