Leafs Acquired Raddysh [8 years, $8.5mil AAV]

I agree, don't ask him to be a top-pairing guy. He was never that and should never have been expected to be that. He's always been the best available through no fault of his own. Bump him down the depth charts, and he will be fine.

With the system/coaching change and now a right handed partner (I personally hope it is Tanev for Rielly), I think Rielly will be rejuvenated. They will never recover his ability on this UFA market or via trade when they would have to sell low. It should not be too hard to leave well enough alone. They do not need the cap space desperately because they still have a hunk and there is so little to spend it on.

The only thing is what Chayka/Sundin/Hiller view the roster as being.

I'm assuming they didn't acquire Emil Andrae to just release him.

If that's the case they have Raddysh, Tanev (bank on injuries), McCabe, OEL, Carlo, Rielly, Andrae, Myers, Villeneuve. I don't think Andrae/Villenueve replace Rielly in the lineup in the least, but we definitely have a bit of a log jam of guys for the bottom 3-4 spots on the blueline (including the press box).

There is definitely more mobility on the blueline already. I'm really leaning more toward keeping Rielly, although could you go talk to Vancouver and make some kind of framework trade of Rielly for Pettersson and see if a fresh start rejuvinates Elias.

The top 6 is all 30+ years old.
There will be injuries
Best Andrae has been is a #7
Villeneuve rounds out a top 8
That is how I'm looking at it.

What might happen is after the July 1 dust settles and many teams hoping to land one of the few decent UFA dmen end up with nothing, they circle back and offer more than garbage for Rielly or Carlo or whoever. I'm a Leafs fan. If they offer something that helps my team, well 'buh bye Morgan ..' I'm against dumping him for not much return and leaving a hole on the back end.

Next year is his last year of NMC. If they rehabilitate him this season, he can't be too fussy about a trade next season and they could get a decent return. We have to try to look beyond this year sometimes ...

"Of the 20 people I spoke to, one was supportive of John's hiring, and the other 19 thought it was a sham, to be perfectly honest. Words were used like 'con artist', 'liar', 'salesman'. How did you come to a different conclusion than what I was able to come to?"

Seems other GMs like dealing with this con artist.
I still can't believe Simmons said that with Chayka and his family sitting right in front of him. I mean I believe it, and yet I don't believe it.

I looked at his skating, Slightly below average speed. Average bursts and mileage
I looked at his injury history. He's been very healthy
He hasn't played a lot of NHL games but between junior, AHL & NHL, he's played a lot of games: 1,027 including playoffs
He doesn't hit a lot, doesn't block shots a lot, low takeaway total

Now things are getting exciting! Winning the draft lottery, getting Raddysh for only $ and a 5th round pick. Even if he crashes and burns, it was worth a shot. Really interested to see how the rest of the summer plays out. At least Chayka doesn't seem to be afraid of making significant moves.

I'm all for trading Rielly if it makes them a better team, otherwise dropping him down to second or even third pair might work out well.
