True, but there was a blatant trip in the third that could have lead to the Flames tying goal and it just wasn't called. It's that sort of situation that makes the blood boil.

Coronato took a hefty slash at McMann after Bobby gave him a late shove into the boards. I think there was some gauntlets about to be thrown down later on as the bottom-6 hassled Coronato repeatedly, but nothing really came of it.
Anyway, we don't really want to see the Leafs PP these days.

This sort of thing is kind of why you could build a lineup with David Kampf or Nic Roy or Scott Laughton (or Fraser Minten in a different timeline) centering Nylander if you need to build a deeper lineup. He can make good on solid defensive structure in the slot for counter punches.
That being said, Nylander's skillset is also one that activates just about every other skilled player strengths (one stop shop for puck transport, playmaking, sniping) so you don't necessarily want him slumming on L3 minutes. Tavares and Maccelli were really struggling dragging around Knies' busted body, but they really came alive and started to play without fear last night when Nylander commanded the puck.

Obviously we just beat two weak teams but I think this game highlights why this team is going to struggle tank without big moves. Matthews and Nylander are too good. Our goaltending has the potential to still be good. Playing .300 hockey is hard when your team isn't atrocious. This isn't a .700 winning percentage team that it would need to be to make the playoffs but it's also nowhere near one of the 2-3 worst teams.

Frost thought he had boxed him out fully (as did the rest of the Flames who moved into wall support outlet positions), but released off the boards to try to make a play on the puck in his feet. That gave Nylander enough room to get his stick on the puck and flick it to a Maccelli drifting into the wide open slot between the Flames caught watching the board play.

I think we probably need to come to terms with the fact that, without serious lottery luck, the Leafs aren't getting their pick back this year. Even before these two wins, their odds of getting into the bottom 5 were only slightly higher than their odds of making the playoffs. So, let's rack up the points and try to get that pick into the teens so we don't give Boston as good a shot at a real impact prospect.
