2026-27 General Trades & Signings

Did someone hack the Blackhawks trade value software?

I doublechecked the deal because I thought there probably was a reporting error

I googled Kyle Davidson and Mike Milbury ... and got a bunch of hits ... comparisons were already being made months ago

Maybe Chayka should be giving Kyle Davidson a call .. really soon ..

Every new reveal of this trade made it worse for Chicago.

Byram for 4th overall?

And they took on Greenway who had 1 goal last season and a $4mil cap hit?

And they gave up the 45th overall pick?

And they gave up a seemingly serviceable 6'8" 25-year old depth defenceman?

Make me very curious to see what their offer for Knies was.

I have to think it was similar. So the 4th overall, the 45th pick and the serviceable d-man. Would fans have been happy with that for Knies?

I would probably rather have a better roster piece of prospect vs. the 45th pick or serviceable d-man but with the ability to draft one of Malhotra/Reid/Carels, absolutely.

Is Pietrangelo coming back?
Probably not. He has a chronic hip issue that he manages through rehab which allows him to lead a normal life, but would not prepare him for the rigors of the NHL. He's never completely ruled out returning, but he admits it is unlikely.

This offseason might also bring about some clarity on Alex Pietrangelo, who took the 2025-26 season off while recovering from an injury but has indicated that he is attempting to make a comeback.

I don't know how much stock to give that. McCrimmon felt his career was over.
But I think he was trying to avoid the career ending surgery and rehab it - something like that. Maybe that helped ..
Or maybe closer to Jani Hakanpaa's recovery (he played 19? games in Europe .)
