2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

I’m still hoping for Robertson.
I think Jared McCann would make a ton of sense, assuming it's true that Seattle is looking to move him. Would be one of the fastest guys on the team, can play centre if the team feels like it needs more speed there (it does) but can also play wing of course if they don't want to move JT or Roy to wing.

What it would take to get him is obviously a big question mark. I'm kind of just typing as I think here but if the team is convinced he can be a full-time C maybe even flipping Roy for him could be on the table. Seattle seems low on righties. Would prefer to get him another way but I don't think something around say McMann would be enough.

With Murray going to Seattle I wonder if the team looks to bring in another veteran 3rd goalie, or if they're comfortable using Hildeby or Akhtyamov in that role yet. The UFA goalie market is very, very slim right now. Would a 37-year old James Reimer want to keep playing hockey? I don't see anyone giving him a back-up role right now so maybe playing in the AHL in Toronto, where it all began, would be preferable to playing in any other AHL market. It's basically him or Chris Driedger right now.

Josef Korenar.

I would take McCann.

The Marlies continue to get stronger. The goal for them should be to always have a good team. If that can't happen primarily through prospects then the few young guys there should always be insulated with vets like this and Boyd.

As an aside when I googled him this *insanely obviously AI generated article* popped up, what on earth leads people to do stuff like this: https://infopetitenation.ca/vinni-lettieri-a-promising-talent-in-professional-hockey/

I see Treliving is really leaning into the "acquire more Italians for the franchise"

I guess I have a hard time understanding how we are acquiring anyone in trade at this point who isn't a reclamation project.

2026 - 3rd, 5th, 6th
2027 - 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 6th, 7th
2028 - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th
2029 - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th
2030 - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th

Prospects: Cowan, Danford, Akhytyamov, Hildeby

We only have 1 2nd round pick for the next two seasons. Even with the concept of cap space accruement this year...we really don't have anything worth trading to acquire a solid player so our only appeal with holding on to cap space this year is not tying up bad money for next year and potentially have space to double retain for asset acquisition this year before that disappears in the next CBA,
