Who uses it and is it worth it?

I am on the free 30 day trial and I have already watched 3 movies, so I guess I already would have got my moneys worth had I paid the $7.99 for the month..I think it's that much for a new DVD rental at Rogers or Blockbuster..

Thoughts?

I think it's worth it for the documentaries alone.

I think its pretty good, I go weeks without using it, but if I watch 1-2 movies a month, I find its worth it.

As long as you don't mind waiting for newer movies to be on there.

I tried the 30-day trial and loved it. Plenty of great TV shows that I've always wanted to see. In the end I had to cancel it though, it was killing my bandwidth cap.

You mean like the Water Bottle one currently on offer? I haven't figured it all out yet..

I don't know that one but I've caught a bunch of great ones.

I just cancelled. With the price going up and the selection not getting better, I decided it's not worth it.

Doubled. Depending on if you want access to both tv and movies.

I've kept my grandfathered unlimited ISP just for these reasons.  But in the end, if online services are going to cost too much, I won't bother.

Sorry, it appears I had incorrect information. Netflix IS raising prices, but that is for the DVD rentals. From what I understand, they are now (or will be soon) charging $7.99 each for the DVD rental service and for the unlimited streaming. If you are just streaming online then there is no fee increase.

Just signed up today for Netflix.  The selection is ok.  Watching it through the Wii, the quality is ok, maybe slightly less than DVD quality.  I don't know if the quality is any better on an Xbox360 or a PS3.  For $8 a month, it's not bad.  We'll have to see how often they update the selection, or will it it be one of those things where you watch everything the first month, and then there isn't anything new to watch.

I think the thing with Netflix is you have to go into it with realistic expectations. I know some people who've been unhappy with it but a lot of them seemed to have thought that Netflix was going to be like an online Blockbuster where they'd have access to every movie they wanted when they wanted.

I think the better way to look at it is like a used DVD section back in the days where they had used CD stores. Sometimes you'll find cool stuff, sometimes you won't. Sometimes you'll find stuff you didn't know existed but you're willing to give it a go. Like I said, I've found about a half-dozen docs I'd probably never have seen if Netflix didn't recommend them to me. Likewise I've gotten to see some pretty terrific British TV I'd never have seen.

Since the Wii doesn't have HDMI support the quality definitely won't be as good as a PS3 or 360.

That's what I figured.  Now I have an even better excuse to get a PS3.   :P
