Woah! How the hell isn't that worth some form of discipline? Are they thinking it's an uncalled 2:00 minor for elbowing and just ignoring the fact that it was to the head?

I think it should have been called a minor elbowing penalty.

I'm not sure that we should be expecting supplemental discipline on a missed elbowing minor.

A side note, I guess, but man the Jets will wear all manner of ugly uniforms to avoid wearing their cool purple and red ones, huh?

I could see a fine, considering it's nowhere near the puck, it was avoidable, etc. It's not suspension worthy, but something to say "this is not okay" might have been appropriate.

They're still holding out hope for something as spectacular as Boston's.

Sure, but I'm not sure that's the precedent they want to set with respect to missed minor penalties.

No, but it might be one they want to set for elbows to the head that aren't a result of a legit hockey play.

Aren't all elbowing penalties to the head though?  Like, do you get a penalty for elbow to the chest?  Elbow to the knee?

There's nothing in the rulebook about a dog playing basketbal....or rather there's nothing in the elbowing rule that mentions head contact.

As Nik mentions, there's nothing in the rule that specifically mentions the head. Players could absolutely be penalized for an elbow to the chest, the back, the leg, whatever.

There's also merit to the league specifically targeting elbows to the head as being more significant than other missed penalties. They could easily justify it as any avoidable contact with another player's head requires some form of discipline, whether it's in-game or otherwise.

So Kovalchuk has 7 points in 7 games with the Habs and is averaging over 19 minutes in ice-time. Could be a decent trade chip for them come deadline time.

I'd rather he stays hot, they keep him for the "drive for 9th" and get a crappy draft pick.

Me too. I hope he stays hot and the Habs sign him to a new contract.

Bruins waived Backes to assign him to the AHL. 6M cap hit this year and next.
