Bar on the top of Assistant Captain Crest
« on: February 09, 2021, 07:30:58 PM »
OK this has been bugging me since the other night. Maybe someone on here can help me. I apologize if this has been discussed on another thread. I was watching the Leafs game the other night and they were wearing retro jerseys. The assistant captains (Hyman and Muzzin) had an A on their chest with a bar across the top kinda like this Ā (but touching). Isn?t that a Leaf tradition from the 80?s? Didn?t it have something to do with Salming? If you know the answer please reply. Go Leafs Go!

Closer look at it here, if anyone is curious:

Not sure if it's connected to any kind of Leafs history though.

A line over a vowel (called a macron, but not touching) is used in Hawaiian ... but somehow I don't think that's what's they were going for here.  My guess is that it's nothing more than failed typographic design.

I hadn't noticed. Best guess I can offer is that maybe it's a graphical reference to the solid line on top of the letter T of Toronto...?

Maybe a reference to the Toronto Arenas on the retro Jerseys

The Arenas' logo was a giant T, and the typeface they used was san-serif, so, probably not. It's a nod to the Leafs jerseys from the 70s and 80s. Why they had it then, who knows? The 70s and 80s were weird time for design in general.
