Undisclosed team makes offer for Franson

Leafs offered a player and 2nd round pick from undisclosed team for Franson. Evidently, depth on D is highly valued in Toronto.

I think the only way they don't take that is if the player is a salary dump or Franson is a part of a bigger deal.

Hard deal not to take, though, I guess I can understand not jumping on it right away. The only thing really at issue is who the player is and what his contract is like.

Burke was on the Fan just before 9 and said that he has received numerous offers for Franson but not enough that "blows his doors off".

A player and a 2nd?  Assuming that the player isn't saddled with a ridiculous contract, that might be something Burke has to seriously consider.  That extra 2nd would give him a few more options.  And with Aulie (although injured) and Holzer waiting in the wings, it may be a good way to parlay a non-playing asset into something reasonable.

For sure. The problem is why sell Franson for a player and pick? The player will likely be of lesser calibre than Franson if a pick is included, and we're looking for higher calibre players, in general anyway.

My guess is if the player was useful in any way, the offer would have been accepted, but, in reality, he was probably a redundant, salary dump type. Also, with the Leafs playing Nashville on Thursday, Burke probably doesn't want to move Franson right before he intends to give him the opportunity to face his old team.

I think people should maybe remember the circumstances that brought Franson here. The Leafs were willing to pay Lombardi's entire salary without knowing what, if anything, they'd get from him just to bring Franson into the fold.

While Gardiner's presence crowded the situation even more, I think the Leafs were well aware of the log jam they had at the position when they made the deal with Nashville. If it had been Aulie who'd played well in camp as opposed to Gardiner then the Leafs D would basically be as expected right now.

Because of that I think there's every reason to believe that this deal was turned down because Burke likes Franson, thinks Franson can play here and isn't willing to bail on either opinion 17 games into the season.

Burke is likely willing to deal with the right offer but that supports your point in a way too, I think.

It's too early to give up on Franson and I don't see BB doing that yet. Any player is tradeable for the right price tho.

Play the darn kid then.. It is not fair to play him for 12 minutes once every couple of weeks and expect him to be stellar.. Got to give him time

At the same time he's been one of the worst defenders defensively this year.

A player & a 2nd for a guy who has been a healthy scratch pretty much all season? Sounds fishy...

Maybe the player is Wayne Redden

I'm pretty sure if it was Redden Burke's doors would be blown all over the place.

Classic Burke, trying to hold desperate teams hostage for depth. I think this is why he always makes out well in trades, because he gets the absolute best value for players he deals.

I do agree with letting Franson play Nashville, as it will hopefully be Franson's best game and it can only improve his value, one would think.
