Damn, so it'll be 4 days of speculation and rumors.

Basically. And, outside of a couple potential moves made by teams trying to get value for players they have to expose, I wouldn't really expect anything interested from now until the trade freeze, either.

Right but I'd have figured the guys at the NHL offices were smart enough to figure out a policy that says teams can't make moves that affect their lists but otherwise can.

Well, at that point, you're limiting deals to those that only involve players not eligible for the expansion draft and draft picks - which would essentially make for a trade freeze any way.

Right. At best you're talking fairly inconsequential deals getting done.

Have we commented on the cap being $75 million next year per Mirtle?

No, because, right now, he's the only one using that number, and it's still fairly speculative.

Given his track record I'd be very surprised if he went public with it, without having a fairly cast iron source.

Well, he did qualify it as being likely rather than being a sure thing. He gave himself an out.

EDIT: And, for the record, I'm not saying I think he's wrong. More that, all things considered, I'm not sure his assertion merits much discussion at this point.

I absolutely loved this statement from McPhee yesterday:

“The Golden Knights organization is very pleased with how the expansion draft process has gone so far, through the NHL trade freeze which took effect Saturday, June 17 at 12 noon PT. Now, General Manager George McPhee and his staff will continue to have discussions with the other 30 NHL clubs. Vegas has indicated that they will give all 30 clubs every opportunity to keep their rosters intact if they’d like. This means that before the Golden Knights claim a player off a team’s unprotected list, McPhee and his staff are willing to negotiate deals so the other clubs do not lose a player they would otherwise like to keep.”

Absolutely the best way for Vegas to tackle this expansion draft, I just wasn't sure if they'd go that route. I'm a little surprised that we didn't see more teams try to trade guys that they're expecting to lose, but that means Vegas will have more of a chance to make deals with those teams that benefit them.

Florida's list has leaked:

Barkov, Huberdeau, Trochek, Bjugstad, Ekblad, Yandle, Petrovic, Pysyk

That means that Jonathan Marchessault (30 goals last year), Reilly Smith (25 goals 2 seasons ago), Jason Demers, and James Reimer are all exposed. Interesting turn of events there as most predicted they'd go the 7-3-1 route and expose Petrovic and Pysyk.

The Arizona protected list is downright sad:

Protected
Nick Cousins (F)
Anthony Duclair (F)
Jordan Martinook (F)
Tobias Rieder (F)
Oliver Ekman-Larsson (D)
Alex Goligoski (D)
Connor Murphy (D)
Luke Schenn (D)
Chad Johnson (G)

With all the hidden side deals, these protection lists don't really mean a whole lot...

Here's the lists for anyone who hasn't seen them:

James Reimer is protected with Luongo exposed according to Sportsnet.

Anaheim leave Vatanan unprotected. Initially was a bit disappointed the Leafs couldn't have got him for prospects/picks and Carrick or Marincin (under the assumption that Anaheim could have exposed whichever of those two instead).

But after thinking about it I'm guessing the only reason they left him unprotected was that they have done a side deal with Vegas not to take him.
