Like I said, I don't really believe that in a small-ish city that racial tensions can be confined to one high school. Likewise, I think you might need the input of racial minorities to really ascertain what "business as usual" means in terms of tension.

I'm not from there but I know people who are and they describe things slightly differently than you.

And like I've said, I live there, I lived it, I went to that school. I understand many of the dynamics that affect it as I've been a member of a couple of the involved communities. I've also personally been a victim of a "race related" incident in that school and can personally tell you that it didn't increase racial tensions. If Cole Harbour and the surrounding communities have been described to you as such that's a shame and disingenuous. Does the HRM have no race problems? I'd be pretty naive to even suggest that. But did Sydney Crosby grow up in an area that was on the verge of race wars with continuous levels of elevated tension? No. Syd was 2 in 89, 10 in 97, and was playing in Pittsburgh by 2007. There's a lot more personal vendetta involved than the media ever played it out to be. They just always jumped on the fact that two communities have had a feud for decades, one of which was a white community the other a black community, and painted everyone with the same brush.

I'm not sure if you're accusing me or my friend of being disingenuous here but there is the additional possibility that my friend simply has a different opinion of things than you do.

I don't feel that was the implication. I get that you may be exaggerating for effect but the basic gist that I think you, my friend and the tweets seem to agree on is that it's unlikely that Sid Crosby is completely oblivious to the concept of racial tensions.

Another member of Team Trump goes down as Tom Price resigns as HHS Secretary after getting caught in a private/military jet spending scandal where he racked up over a million dollars in international flights.

Donald Trump getting into a twitter war with Puerto Rico, while he is golfing in the middle of a catastrophe that happened to US citizens.  When will this just stop.  The Republicans need to be barred from holding public office for propping him up.

Here's the story...

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/09/30/trump-lashes-out-at-san-juan-mayor-who-begged-for-more-help.htmll

And...sounds like something very foreign...

Asked why government aid to Puerto Rico has been slow to arrive after Hurricane Maria: Puerto Rico is an island.

“It’s very tough, because it’s an island,” Trump said during a meeting with members of the House. “In Texas, we can ship the trucks right out there. And you know, we’ve gotten A-pluses on Texas and on Florida, and we will also on Puerto Rico. But the difference is, this is an island sitting in the middle of an ocean. And it’s a big ocean; it’s a very big ocean. And we’re doing a really good job."

“Frankly, we’re doing — and it’s the most difficult job because it’s on the island — it’s on an island in the middle of the ocean,” he said. “It’s out in the ocean. You can’t just drive your trucks there from other states.”

That’s true. Instead, supplies must be transported by airplane or ship instead of by truck. But that’s still not a great excuse for why the island is awaiting supplies.  But there’s a way to scale that up. In January, a cargo ship operated by the U.S. Navy delivered supplies to researchers in Antarctica totaling nearly 7 million pounds of supplies.

So couldn’t the government have either sent supplies in advance (as it did for Texas and Florida by truck) or sent cargo after the fact that could have gotten to Puerto Rico by now?

The answer is yes and yes.

Is the fact that Puerto Ricans don't pay federal income tax part of the issue here?

Not that I think it should, but I wonder if that's part of the thinking at the highest level.

If paying taxes is the issue, why do they continue to back Trump?

Isn't that because they're a territory and not a state? Afaik theres a lot of issues with being a territory and not a state.

That sort of brings up a question I've been pondering. Do Trump's supporters think he's smart? Do they think that if given, say, a substantive test on the constitution or health care policy or American history that he'd do well?

Fans of Bush always seemed to think the question was besides the point. They agreed with his values, so his raw intelligence was incidental. Meanwhile people like Obama and Hillary, I'm pretty sure, would do well in those settings and that was part of their appeal.
