New GM

I see other threads involving Nonis and Babcock but I think we need a thread dedicated to the Leafs search for a new GM.  It's becoming quite urgent because the draft is fast approaching and the Leafs are reportedly going to do a "scorched earth" rebuild this summer, hopefully trading anyone somewhat useful like Kessel and Phaeuf away for draft picks.

I have really heard next to nothing about who they might get.  What do you guys think?  Is anyone good even available?

I just said this in another thread but you really seem to be under the impression that the new GM will be making the big decisions when it comes to things like draft picks and trades and such. Right now it seems pretty clear that regardless of who gets the GM job, Shanahan will be doing that anyway.

They seem pretty comfortable with Hunter, Dubas and Shanahan making those decisions right now. The idea that someone needs the title of "GM" to go forward, I don't see that as adding up. Remember, at the Babcock press conference the idea that they would even hire a GM wasn't made definite.

I don't mind the current setup heading into the draft as far as drafting goes. It's clear that hunter is driving the bus in terms of scouting.  What I'm worried about is who would handle all of the wheeling and dealing that is supposed to happen on the draft floor.  I mean we're talking about franchise altering trades and the biggest potential deals since dion and Phil were brought in.  I'm just not sure I'm comfortable with shanty making these decisions when he has zero such experience.

What about Yzerman from Tampa Bay?  Is he available?  What about Boston's GM?  Didn't he get fired recently?  He fleeced both Burke and Ferguson.

It's too bad there isn't a thread entitled "Leafs search for a new coach/GM" or anything like that, oh wait...
