Rogers commercials! The one with the two ladies operating the switchboard is particularly grating.

If Internet through my phone line is so archaic, how come it offers me unlimited usage where Rogers can't (won't)?

Who are you with that they don't have a limit?

I'm with Teksavvy. 350GB month limit.

Ah, so there is a limit, it's just high.. ;)

Rogers will offer you a 350GB limit, too. You just have to pay through the nose for it.

Teksavvy also has an unlimited plan. ;)

My brother-in-law lives in the country between Brantford and Ancaster.  They own a farm.

There's no Rogers Cable, the phone lines won't allow for Bell internet.  They've had sporadic 28.8 modem dialup.  Last thing they tried was Rogers Mobile Stick, which was sporadic due to location, and expensive.

Any ideas?  The want to use their connection to go wireless between the farmhouse and the barn office.

Thoughts?

It's not necessarily the most cost effective solution, but, have they looked into the availability of a satellite ISP?

I'm not sure, but it's pretty fast. I don't download that much.

www.speedtest.net will show you your speeds.

I am with MTS and they have no limit on how much you can download either.

I had Bell's internet service for a while when I was in University, and I found it was less than half the speed of the cable connection I switched to, and much less reliable. It would routinely cut out on me 4 or 5 times a day - even though, it would only be for a 10-15 seconds at a time. While it's likely they've improved on it since then, I felt like they had a long way to go to catch up to the cable providers, who have also improved in that time. while it's great that Bell offers unlimited bandwidth (though, based on the packages advertised on their website, that doesn't appear to actually be the case - the packages they advertise have similar caps to what Rogers advertises), I'd rather have less of what I've found to be the superior service.

Our unlimited bandwidth is grandfathered. I'm not in a big hurry so I'll take the slightly slower speed in favour of never having to worry about going over my limit. (I realize this isn't an option for everyone)

Aside from the impossibly annoying Rogers commercials, I don't like the fact that they flat out lie to me when I ask them for unlimited bandwidth in exchange for switching from Bell, or the fact that they offered a 30 dollar gift card for 27 years of service and they didn't even bother to send it.

Same here, I download at anywhere from 4 to 7 MB/sec.

I got a 6.8GB file in like 40 minutes last week, my buddies on bell don't get anywhere near speeds like that.
