Rumour: Komisarek asks for a trade
« on: March 02, 2013, 02:03:08 PM »
From Andy Strickland:

Quote
Mike Komisarek gave #Leafs a list of 12 teams he'd accept a trade to but I'm told he'd pretty much accept a trade anywhere. Wants to play

I used to trust Andy quite a bit, but he's thrown a lot of Leafs-related rumours out there and I don't think any of them have come true. Even if this one is accurate, it might be tough to find a suitor without taking on some salary or giving up a pick.

Even if the rumour is wrong, it pretty much sets things in motion IMO. It will become a big story in Toronto and reporters will ask about it until he's gone.

Not sure where I heard this, but my understanding was that he is required under the terms of his contract to submit a list of 12 teams at the start of the season in any event. If that is true, this is likely a non-story.

It's something of a story there. He's basically (if the rumour is true) waving his limited NTC. However, I'm really not sure who would be interested... Maybe a team looking for depth this year who's also willing to use one of their compliance buyouts on him this summer?

A lot of the times when it's structured like that the list still isn't actually provided until one side wants a trade. Kind of awkward for a player who has a solid relationship with his team to tell them which other teams he would go to.

Nor would, I think, the team request it unless it looked like that player wasn't going to be of use to the team.

I can understand Komisarek's desire to be moved. Nothing wrong with wanting to play hockey.

However, does anyone want him?

Does anyone doubt that if his contract was moveable he'd have been dealt a dozen times over by now?

I mean, I guess this might mean his agent is free to try and sell a GM on the idea but it's a little bit like Tiger Woods asking for a divorce at this point.

Yeah. The only realistic scenario in which Komisarek would garner trade interest from another team would be if the Leafs were to take back an equally bad contract - something like DiPietro's or Horcoff's - neither of which is a more appealing option to the Leafs than using a compliance buy-out on him in the summer, unless they're accompanied by something of significant value.

Feaster is still employed in Calgary so anything is possible LOL. They don't have any talent the Leafs would want but apparently Feaster likes to throw picks around.

He wouldn't be the first player to re-start his career in another place. I believe our current blue line features a couple guys who couldn't make in other teams.

See this not panning out due to no dance partner.  He gets bought out in the summer and signs a contract on the cheap somewhere, much like Armstrong did.  Why not collect two paycheques next season.

The only way the Leafs can trade Komisarek is to take similar contract back. Does not make sense from the Leafs perspective. If Komi wants to play, he can - in the Marlies. They sure can use some veteran presence.

I don't know...

Komi's salary this and next season is 3.5mi with a 4.5 cap hit. If the Leafs pay like 50% of that he might be tradeble, maybe in a package or something like that (not paying half salary for a low pick).

Also a couple of moves need to be made, as Frattin and Lupul are likelly to return in the next 2 weeks, as only Holzer can be send down without waivers (well, Kadri does too, but he won't).
A.K.A Gardiner51, Changed back to Kaberle15 now that he is retired.

this all makes me feel a little bad for him..it must be somewhat hard to see your name only come up surrounded by negativity ..i know he gets a lot of money to sit in that press box..but this guy must be dying to play..people don't devote that much of their life to hockey just to want to sit in the stands...
