Halifax Explosions
« on: January 30, 2018, 11:01:51 AM »
Did you see the logo and helmets for the proposed Halifax CFL team:  "The Explosions", yes in reference to the tragedy during WW1 but not really appropriate for this day and age one would think.  Who were the creative on this disaster of a name choice?

I'm confused. You think that this would be more appropriate back when Halifax actually exploded?

Glad to have Nik back, no they intended as a tribute, not me. I am only pointing out its very very misguided idea.

Yeah, it was just a concept thrown out by a fan group unaffiliated with ownership. I just don't know why you think it'd be inappropriate in this day and age especially.

Maybe something to do with worldwide terrorism and violence in this day and age.

As opposed to peaceful ol' 1917?

Nik, is this worth quibbling over? Do you think is a good name or appropriate name? Let promote a TML Fans internal site contest to name the Halifax team.  My vote is for the Halifax Hackers.

It's not going to be the name of the team so...I don't really think it matters? It's an idea from a fan group that has some interesting connotations that won't be chosen. I'm sure the actual name will be something pleasingly generic.

I assumed this thread was about an anniversary of the actual event or something but now it's come to my attention this a proposed name for a CFL team! How stupid are the people suggesting this? Is this "fake news"?

I love it, you are now my favorite poster on this site.  Halifax Schooners  (sort of sound like Sooners).

wow, I think that's horribly insensitive and inappropriate. Even if it was a hundred years ago. Anything commemorating that kind of thing. Just no.
but I realise, that's just my opinion.

there's gotta be a million better alternatives than that.

Holy shit people.  A modicum of reading comprehension would work wonders;

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/halifax-cfl-team-expansion-name-online-debate-1.4508523

"CFL in Halifax is a creative group that makes fan art to generate discussion, and clarified Monday afternoon that “We are NOT the same people who are bidding for an official Halifax CFL team. That is a different group of business people."
