8.5 per for 6-8yrs or sit him , and that is the bottom line.

Great post.... The greed in sports is just nuts.  A first big contract for him should be max  8x8.5.  There is a defense to sign next season.  Why force your team to give away a chance to win more then just one cup by not having the cap funds left to pay everyone.

My choice is max 8.5mil per  for 6-8 yrs. Or sit him out.

I will say good bye and good luck. As for the Leafs defense, I am very happy with it.

more then 8.5 and we are over paying. so 8.5 over six yrs is the deal we offer take it or leave it. I think that is a fair deal.

I still believe there is a Gardner factor playing out in this Marner contract. The Leafs want him and I think as well with him we will have by far the best six pack in the NHL.

What the last 24 hours have hammered home is, it was way easier being a hockey fan when I was a kid.  You didn't have to worry about cap hits, contract values etc.  You either had good players or bad players and whether your favorite guy made $10M or $1M it didn't really matter cause they were part of the team.  Every trade was only scrutinized insofar as the play on the ice.  Now it's a whole different ballgame, being cap compliant, having dead money on the cap, sending guys up and down for cap savings etc.  It's all so stupid.  I just want to see them play.

So so so true. I AGREE 100%.

Say what you want but before I leave on my vacation, I need to say this.  I think all the players today are greedy, I think Marner should take at most 6.5 for 7-8 yrs up front like the usual, then in his next deal he goes after the bigger money.  This way all the players can be signed to a fair deal leaving the team to build a contender for years to come. So say at the end of the day when the deal is signed Mitch has 40 mil to toss in the bank, what the heck is wrong with that. invest well and he is set for life plus he would still have a better payday in 7-8 years. and some very nice rings i am sure of.

But we all know shit does not work that way anymore.  so I will still hope for 8.5 and a cheap one year deal to grab Gardner, then I would say we will be "thee team" to beat for the cup.

Cheers and enjoy your summer everyone..

I think 6-7yrs at 8.5mil. Then we sign Gardner on a one yr cheap deal.  I have a hunch this is all about squeezing Gardner in. After all he is still out there, and wants to stay. Then our D would be unreal, and we could take a real run at the cup.

Why post stuff we can not read unless we buy a subscription.

Some of us have a subsciption.

No insult intended, but if we can't read it then don't post it here, as it's a waist of space. I don't have money to burn so i don't go to Tim Hortons, but if I do have spare coin I send it here as this is my Leaf news spot, and has been so, just about since the site opened.

GLG.... All in boys. Get er done.

Please, please Hockey gods give us this win, as a leaf fans we have suffered long enough.

On that note I am all in and ready for 3pm. GLG...............

Leafs in 6 is my call. I just feel there due.
