Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Buyouts

Evening chaps.

Just wondering if we are likely to make use of the compliance buyouts this summer or perhaps the accelerated buyout now?

Would we bite the bullet and get rid of Phaneuf to clear salary space or would we be more likely to seek a trade if necessary?

How's jolly old England?

I don't see Phaneuf going anywhere. Maybe JML buyout if he has a bad showing this season?

It's marvelous but a tad cold (actually it's flipping freezing but to you guys it would be mild for this time of year so no sympathy expected!)

The reason I specifically mentioned Phaneuf is purely due to the big contract and with Burke having vacated the seat.  I guess Komi would be most likely to go. We've also got to find money for Lupul along with the cap reduction unless we decide to get some assets for him at the trade deadline.

I don't know as much about hockey as you old chap but could we not include Gunnarson or Franson in a trade and then introduce Holzer and Blackman?  Presume we'd get more for those guys and then develop the young 'uns.

You sound like a dandy. Awesome :))

a yankee doodle dandy.

:D Fortunately I am English rather than American, hence my hockey knowledge not being as spiffing as you chaps.

I wonder what other gms think when burke makes statements like that.

Probably something akin to what Alex Ferguson thinks when Leyton Orient's manager starts yammering.

Excuse me but I support Leyton Orient and I'll have you know that our manager (Russell Slade) is highly respected within the game (although not necessarily by all of our fans).

You guys are surprised the Leafs didn't take Grigorenko?

Not suprised at not taking Grigorenko.  Utterly shocked that we didn't take Grigorenko OR Forsberg.

Massively deflated at taking Reilly. Sure, a great prospect, but scandalous that we overlooked Grigorenko given the need for a top quality centre.  Oh well.

Afternoon chaps. I'm quite keen on us obtaining another top 10 pick in the 6-10 range. What are our chances of that and who of these teams would be the most likely trading partner?

I really like the offer sheet idea - Really give Vancouver something to witch about.  8)

Would I be right in saying that if we give Schneider an offer sheet then Vancouver would match. BUT would they then not want to entertain offers from us for Luongo?

So if Vancouver wanted our first and second pick for Luongo - would we do it? If not, would we do our first plus Komi?

Would anyone object to trading down? There seems to be more than a few intriguing guys in the 6-15 range too.

I'd like us to keep the #5 and trade for another first rounder between 10th and 15th overall. Would have been possible had we obtained a first rounder at the deadline - I guess less possible without.

Hi chaps.

Just wondering...

1) What would the cost be to trade for the 1 or 2 overall pick while keeping our 5th overall?
2) What chance of us trading our second rounder plus in order to get a first round pick between 10th and 15th overall?
3) We turned down offers of first round picks for a few of our players at the deadline. Is there any chance of ressurecting these?
