General Rumours & Speculation / Re: Armchair GM 2016-2017

Was hoping we may be able to trade for a defensive prospect from the past draft or two. Provorov particularly (although I guess that's unrealistic now). Are there any others we may he able to get in a trade?

Out of interest why have the Leafs not invoked long term injury relief on one or more of Horton, Robidas or Lupul anyway?

Thanks for standing in Herman.

I see it was a difficult second leg for Toronto in New York!

Quick question guys  - if we successfully signed Lindholm via an offer sheet at a level that involves us needing to give up a first round pick, then at what point do we hand over this pick?  If it's as soon as the signing is made, could we trade for another first rounder beforehand and hand that over in the Lindholm deal or would it always be the Leafs own pick unless they didn't own it?

I see from above that the Leafs have first dibs on waivers but how many players can they claim as the team with the first option?

Record breaker Sir Bradley Wiggins won gold last night in the Team Pursuit to become Great Britain's most decorated Olympics athlete (and of course he has a Tour de France win on top of that).

Milos played ok but he does have another level. It was disappointing that he missed so many 2nd serve returns; they were coming in slower than vs Fed, and he was crushing those ones. He also approached Murray's backhand side too often on his approach shots.

But it may not have been enough anyway as Murray was playing at his highest level. Only 12 errors all match and masterful backhands regularly.

Still a great few weeks for Milos and another step in the right direction.
Good effort from Raonic and plenty of time for him to develop his game. Also gave a real classy interview at the end. He just came up against a more experienced and better player at the top of his game.

Obviously ecstatic at Murray winning and with Heather Watson's win in the mixed doubles, Lewis Hamilton in the Grand Prix and our men dominating Le Tour it's been a great day for British sportspeople.

Looks like it's going to be won by France. Really don't want Portugal to win but they will give them more of a game than Wales would have. That said I'm a little sad thet Wales didn't get to the final. It would have made it more watchable for me.

On a side note, England beat all four semi finalists within the past few months. If only they'd bothered showing up at the tournament.

Wish I'd taken the afternoon off to watch today's semi finals. Didn't go to Wimbledon this year (I go most years but didnt get anything in the ballot and didn't fancy queueing) and now starting to regret it.

I'm torn between wanting a Murray v Raonic final (which gives the edge to Murray) or a Murray v Federer final where I would be disappointed if Murray loses but happy for Federer to get one last slam. A true legend who will be missed when he retires.

I guess this contributed to why we couldn't trade him.

JVR's no trade clause has kicked in but is it full or limited?

I guess we'd hope he would waive it for a contender anyway.

Bottom line on the Subban trade, from an NHL GM: "If you think Subban is one of the 15 best D-men in the NHL, it's a bad deal.  I don't."

There's an NHL General Manager out there who thinks he can name 15 defenceman better than P.K. Subban.

Probably Chiarelli.

Back to the action tonight - Poland v Portugal. A tough one to call, but I'm going for Poland due to their better team ethic. I doubt Ronaldo can carry the Portugeezers to another win after the Croatia game, plus Croatia didn't have Levandowski up front.
