Non-Hockey Chatter / purchasing a house
« on: July 17, 2012, 12:39:35 PM »
I remeber their being a thread with a ton of info on purchasing a house, which was started years ago but I haven't been able to find it lately. I am currently in the market to buy a house and remember there being a lot of good info in the thread, I have quite a few questions so hopefully someone can help me out here.

What is the best way to go about a mortgage? Check the prime rates and go with the best one? Mortgage broker?

I was told by a friend that every pre-approval, your credit takes a hit, so is it best to only goto one bank?

This is my first step in buying and it may be a rushed process as once I get my release date, depending when it is, I need to find a place and get all the paperwork processed so I can move around my release date. I am really hoping they don't release me until the end of August as I goto college Aug 27th for work and that would give me 10 weeks to look and everything.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Non-Hockey Chatter / Learning to skate
« on: January 07, 2012, 12:42:21 PM »
I haven't skated since I was a kid and even then it was minimal, I never learned how to stop lol

The reason for this thread is that I am going to buy a pair of skates and start skating, maybe try playing hockey on ice, I have no clue what to look for in a pair of skates, any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, any tips on learning how to skate would be appreciated as well :D

Thanks!

Toronto News: After a dominating 7-1 win at home against the Washington Capitals, the Leafs couldn't match that performance the next night in a 3-2 road loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Leafs fell behind early and never recovered, clearly showing weary legs in back-to-back games.

"I thought we were doing fine in the first period," coach Ron Wilson said. "I don't think they had very many scoring chances. But in the second period we didn't have much energy and we didn't work smart."

Tampa Bay News: Down 3-0 at home against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, the Lightning made a strong push in the third period to cut the lead to 3-2.

But a late goal by Ryan Carter short-circuited the comeback in what turned out to be a 4-2 loss to the Devils. Coach Guy Boucher was upset with his team's performance.

"We had some players show up tonight: (Ryan) Shannon, (Martin) St. Louis, (Steve) Downie and (Brett) Connolly," Boucher said. "This game takes a full team effort and tonight we just didn't have enough."

Ottawa News: Daniel Alfredsson returned to the Senators' lineup last night after missing five games with a concussion, and the hope is he'll immediately create a different kind of headache for opposing defencemen. - Ottawa Citizen

Toronto News:James Reimer did not practice on Friday after participating in the previous five on-ice workouts. Ron Wilson said after practice that Reimer had hit a plateau in his recovery so the trainers decided not to ask him to go on the ice. "We've got the healthy guys and they're doing the job so we'll give James plenty of time to recover. There's no rush to get him back." Reimer hasn't played in two weeks after suffering an undisclosed injury against Montreal on October 22nd. -TSN

Wilson declined to reveal the starter for Saturday’s game against Boston. Ben Scrivens made 38 saves in his NHL debut on Thursday, a 4-1 win over Columbus. Jonas Gustavsson had started previous five games, posting a 3-2-0 record. The Leafs were beaten 6-2 by the Bruins in their only matchup earlier this year.-TSN

Luke Schenn played only 9:13 vs. the Blue Jackets, but Wilson said the coaching staff hadn’t decided on whether he needed a night off. Wilson noted that he believed in Schenn’s ability to get through this difficult stretch. -TSN

Wilson also addressed his contract situation by saying that nothing had changed in his status. “I didn’t feel uncomfortable before. I’m just doing my job.” -TSN

Boston News: Rich Peverley and Dennis Seidenberg both missed practice for the second straight day for maintenance, but Claude Julien said there's no concern that they'd miss any time. - Boston Globe
