Send Matthews back to Arizona for Chychrun, Crouse and their 1st.

Wow, hard pass.

Ultimately, if it's true there isn't a market for Barrie above a 2nd round pick, I think that we could pretty much agree that Dubas lost on this trade, in a big way.

That's not really a fair comparison, though. Dubas traded for a full season of Barrie (plus Kerfoot). Any trade now would be for 1/4 of a season.

I'm not sure if I see it that way (if I'm understanding you correctly). Dubas gave up a substantial asset in kadri for a #2 defenseman (and Kerfoot). If that main asset has diminished through the season to the point that we're saying he's worth no more than a 2nd rounder on an expiring contract in a coveted RD position, while Kadri is still on a good number through 21-22, I'd call that an unfortunate trade. No?

I'm predicting a win tonight

At this point all the games are pretty meaningful, but I'd think this one would be pretty pivotal one way or another when it comes to team identity for the rest of the way.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Leafs trade Marchment to FLA for Denis Malgin
« on: February 20, 2020, 01:01:56 PM »
I think I was more disappointed in Marchment's play on his call ups than this trade. He had a pretty good path to playing on the bottom 6 based on bring something other couldn't, and he really didn't show anything.

Anyway, I hope that swiss nic petan can join forces with regular nic petan and make one larger petan, destroying villages and such.

Andy Greene just went for a 2nd round pick. You don't think Barrie returns a fair amount more than that?

Huh, I never considered that Barrie wouldn't bring back a first round pick, considering most of the teams interested would likely be pretty late picks, and Barrie does have a lot of points in the bank this year (which I agree, are likely inflated due to the scoring output of the forwards).
Also, he's a right hander, which seems most coveted, and there's a lot of injuries on D around the league. I'd have thought all of this would have played in the leafs' favour to get a decent return.

General NHL News & Views / Re: 2019-2020 NHL Thread

What a joke.

Definitely, but I'm a bit surprised by the... surprise. DOPS has been suspending to the severity of the injury since forever, regardless of how dangerous the action. My memory isn't great, but racial stuff aside, has there been a longer suspension for any action in which there wasn't any injury sustained?

I still vote in favour of selling assets that won't be here next year (Barrie).

Yeah, I'm on the same page there. If there's a market that would give up a first round pick for Barrie as a rental, I'd take it.

Then that pick could be either spent on a D man with term, along with a minor asset or two to a rebuilding club, or simply hold on to it into the draft if no deal can be made. I think of barrie as a luxury for a good defensive team, not a core piece.

They can simply use another forward in his place on the PP, or even Sandin, and perhaps we'd see less unscreened wrist shots from the point go into the goalie's chest protector while Matthews and Nylander stand there open at the top of the circle looking confused.

Never change, DJ, never change.

* shrugs *  Putting aside his contract, Zaitsev isn't that bad.

Yeah, I imagine he's been playing against top competition for much of the year. But that said, with the number of defencemen around the league that are hurt, my first thought was that they're trying to pump his value a little to see if any interest.

Ha, well, it certainly seems to have rattled a poster wearing a blue and white bear costume.

Yeah that guy who compared Nylander to Matt Moulson trying to act like his takes about Willy are all rational and unbiased. He has 9 points in 10 games since then by the way.

Nylander's been terrific of late, absolutely. It's pretty clear this is a personal issue for you, so I'm going to take a break for a bit. Enjoy the games!

If nylander gets the hm I'm pretty much done with this voting thing.
Please share.

Heh heh, I was just poking fun. If people want to vote for their favorite player, echo the majority, or nominate the zamboni driver, no one should lose any sleep over it.
Such a letdown lol.

HM: Hutch
runner up - Muzzin

I think most people's criticisms of Nylander was that he was bringing minimal results for the last year and a half.
Folks can do all the statistical deep dives they want, but when a guy is being paid on producing points and isn't doing anything particularly special in the other side of the rink, it's perfectly fair to be frustrated and critical.

It's great for leaf fans that he's broken through this season. I find it funny with all these "Nylander is leading the league in goals from the front of the net" or whatever it was, as if it's some rebuttal of his critics, when in fact his critics have been saying that he needs to go there more in the first place, and they're being proven right.

If Hutch has a bad outing tonight, I think they replace him next week.

Things are far too tight in the standings for them to be patient in February.

I imagine they've been trying to replace him for some time regardless. I think the team would be crazy to give up more draft picks, or kapajohnssonanen for a backup, and I imagine that's the ask, at least from the rags.
